A brief description of the project's mission
A little about me and my collecting history-
I’m a 80’s-90’s Kid. My life between the ages of 7-14 revolved around all things sports cards. Allowance, lawn mowing and birthday money, everything I had went to my local shop. Freedom was defined by riding my bike 3 miles from home and spending all day at my LCS. As with many I’ve talked to, highschool changes people. Lol. Less time for cards and more time for girls and friends. And before heading off to college I hid my cards at my parents house and insured the safety of my retirement nest egg. I was sure that Griffey Rookie was going to buy me my own pirate island.
Fast forward 20 or so years later and all it took was my 5 year old son asking for some baseball cards while attending a Texas Rangers game this summer for me to get reeled back in. It was like coming home and seeing a long lost friend. I decided to find my Local shop and give it a visit. My thought was, “I’m an adult, and I can buy packs to rip.” Boy was I in for a rude awakening. After hearing that a box of cards was anywhere from $200-800+ I went back to what I knew. I went to my parents house, got all my old cards and started sorting.
It’s been about a 1.5 years of adult collecting and my collection has grown leaps and bounds. I've been able to build and collect sets that childhood me would have never believed. Honeslty, I'm still pinching myself. It’s been fun talking to so many people and for the most part everyone has been really great. I love the community of card collecting and really enjoy building sets.
Joining OBC and the Chaos games has afforded me not only growth in my collection but also growth in my friendships. I've been able to meet some of the most generous people and inturn it's helped challenge me to be generous in kind.
Ultimately, I’m here to meet new people, collect and build sets, own super cool pieces of history and to do all of these things while helping my sons learn to love collecting too.
