Modelling Continuous Stir Tank Reactor (CSTR) for Propylene Synthesis
Description:
Commercially, propylene glycol is produced by the hydrolysis of propylene oxide. This first-order, irreversible and exothermic reaction is often carried out in a glass-lined Continuous Stir Tank Reactor (CSTR) covered by water jacket. In this analysis, myself and two other group membersmodelled operation of the CSTR from first principles (including mole and energy balances) and simulated process results using MATLAB to obtain concentration and temperature profiles. Special observation was made to how these profiles approach their steady state values.

Emergency Water Station
Description:
In a group of 9 other members, we developed an automated, and easily detectable emergency water station that could house a barrel containing water jugs, weight the contents of the barrel (compute the number of jugs), and automatically update to a predetermined website, the current number of jugs and station location, thus allowing for a real-time monitoring of the status of the barrel. This station also has phone charging capabilities and includes a compartment for food.
