Malay Ethnobotany Community + Learning Centre
Incorporate biophilic approach into public architecture to enhance the well-being and improve livability of community
Urban green is not only important in promoting well-being among communities, but also plays an important role in promoting the social and ecological objectives. However, rapid urbanization has continuously disconnected humans from the natural environment in daily life due to the shrinkage of urban green coverage while limited attempts have been made in blending nature into the architecture of Malaysia.
The design showcases an opportunities to transform community garden into a learning centre related to Malay ethnobotany knowledge where Bunga Telang (Butterfly Pea Flower) being the subject matter of the design. The design aims to preserve the cultural value of the flower and explores its potential usage that could bring economic impact to the local community. Through the Biophilic and environmental approach, the design incorporates natural elements by blurring the internal and external spaces, and thus increase green coverage in the urban area. The combination of building programs and design strategies envision a future that promote livability and sustainable growth for the community.
