Marching Band Mom Tips!

  • BAND CAMP is mandatory!

    • 2026 Band Camp is July 20-23 and July 27-31.  

    • July 31 will be the Show Preview for familiy/friends (mid-day), followed by an end of season party for the kids.

    • KDMB participates in the local SESD summer parades!

  • Don't plan vacation for the last 2 weeks in July and first week in August as 2 of those weeks is usually the weeks of Band Camp and it is mandatory to attend!

  • Make sure your student goes to school on every Friday with all needed equipment for band - Dinkles (band shoes - if they don't have yet, they should be distributed this week), mouthpiece, instrument, music, black socks, and a LIGHT outfit to wear under the uniform.  They should have their show T shirts to wear, but light shorts/spandex shorts are recommended to wear for warmer game nights. (leggings for colder nights)  

  • 8th graders will need a note to give to their bus driver signed from a parent that it is OK for them to be transported to the high school from the middle school after school ends on Fridays (and for after school practices)

  • Charcoal inserts are strongly recommended to store inside their Dinkles (band shoes) to keep odor down.  High schoolers generally store shoes at school, but 8th graders will need to carry back and forth.  It is encouraged to write initials somewhere inside the shoes to identify them if they get lost.  We do have some paint pens at KD to use. 

  • The Music Boosters will be feeding the kids dinner every Friday late afternoon prior to the games.  Make sure you have signed them up for meals (see link below) so we know about any food allergies and can make sure there is enough food to serve.  A yearly $40 fee covers these meals.  If you prefer, you can opt out of that charge and pack a dinner for your student.  (The $40 was included in your invoice from Mrs. Benna.  If you still need to pay, it can be paid via Venmo to @KDMusicBoosters, or a check made out to KD Music Boosters.)

  • Note:  We still provide dinners (on game day Fridays) even when it is a half day or day off school.  We do NOT usually provide a meal for Saturday events/shows. 

  • Be there by 6pm to see the band march from the high school side entrance into the stadium for home games! The pre-game marching band performance is usually around 6:30pm.
