Using Google in Health Education

What is it?

Google Drive is cloud storage, apps launcher (Docs, Slides, Forms, Sites, etc.), and organizes the backend of Google Classroom.

• NEW button to launch various apps
• Creating new folders
• Open MS Office files
• Accessible anywhere, but can sync with your computer's hard drive (Settings)
• Team Drives vs Folders

Applications for HPE Teachers

• Organize all of your files in one place from anywhere in the world - even outside on the field!
• Store all of your media with infinite Drive space with Google for Education - plenty of room for field day pictures and videos!
• Create worksheets, slide presentations, forms, etc.
• Create Team Drives for departments (Building-Level and/or District-Level) for collaboration

What is it?

Google Docs is a word processing web application and Google Slides is a presentation creator web application.

Key Features

• Provides much of the utility of MS Office Word and PowerPoint
• Powerful collaboration features (blue "Share" button in top-right corner)
• Can be published as websites!
• Integrate seamlessly with Google Classroom and Google Sites
• Search for images without copyright infringement
• Use Slides as a Publisher using Page Set-Up
• Revision History

What is it?

Google Sheets is a web-based spreadsheet program that organizes data, and Google Forms is a web application that allows users to create an easy-to-use interface to collect data.

Key Features

• Create tests, quizzes and other assessments
• Quickly analyze data in formative assessment applications
• Digitize record keeping
• Surveys

• Record keeping (e.g. PE preparedness, attendance, etc.)
• Create digital rubrics (checkboxes) for PE

What is it?

Google Sites is a web-based website creation tool that functions within Google Drive.

Key Features

• Allow students to publish to the WWW
• Allows YOU to publish to the WWW (or just your school!)
• Not the same as Google Classroom
• Attach/Embed Drive files easily and quickly

Google Classroom is a learning platform that allows you to organize the copying and distribution of assignments, manage student work and feedback, as well as provide announcements and other information for your classroom.

Key Features

• It is NOT a Moodle, Canvas, Schoology, Blackboard, etc.
• Distribute assignments in seconds
• Integrates with Drive
• Gather data with quick questions/surveys
• Manage student work and feedback

Applications for HPE Teachers

• Organize student work for Health and/or PE
• Camera feature may be an interesting feature for PE (haven't personally tried it yet)
• Communicate with parents
