Marzano's Strategies and Behavior Domain is closely aligned with Charlotte Danielson's Domain 3 on Instruction. The design questions associated with this domain include areas focused on establishing routine events, interactions with students, and attention to real-time lesson adjustments.
The following provides insight on a lesson I use with fifth grade students as we study food and nutrition. The focus of the lesson is on understanding calories and how they are used in our daily lives.
This is the template I use with fifth students to create a "Calorie Calculator". Different cells are shaded in various colors to provide scaffolding and additional guidance during instruction. Students code the sheet so that all they do is type in the grams of each energy nutrient and it provides to total (SUM) calories.
After students build their calorie counting calculators, each group is assigned a pre-created template that uses nutrition labels (without calories) from local fast food restaurants. They collaborate in teams of 3-4 to determine calorie values of the nutrition labels within the file.
