People often ask me, “Why Friesians?” or “What made you choose this breed?” The answer takes me back to a simple question someone once asked me:
“If you could own any horse in the world, what would it be?”
Without hesitation, I said, “A Friesian.” Then I quickly added, “But that’s not really possible—they’re so rare here, and I could never afford one.”
That moment planted a seed. I became curious—Why were there so few Friesians in Australia? What made them so special? And most importantly, what would it take to one day call one my own?
That spark of curiosity ignited a journey that has since grown into a lifelong passion. What began as a dream turned into a mission—one that has taken me across the world, deep into the heart of the breed’s origins, and at one point, saw over 20 Friesian horses gracing my property.
Friesian horses have taken me on an incredible journey—one that has spanned continents, forged lifelong friendships, and shaped my professional path in ways I never imagined. What began as a passion quickly evolved into a lifelong commitment to excellence in the breeding, training, and judging of this magnificent breed.
My dedication led me to the Netherlands, the heartland of the Friesian horse, where I spent invaluable time at some of the most renowned stables. Immersing myself in the culture and expertise of Dutch breeders was instrumental in developing the knowledge and insight I needed to produce Friesians of the highest standard here in Australia.
To deepen my understanding, I invested in formal training with the Koninklijke Vereniging "Het Friesch Paarden-Stamboek" (KFPS), focusing on the judging of Friesian horses. This experience was transformative. The more I learned, the more I wanted to know. I had the privilege of practicing my judging skills at numerous inspections across the Netherlands, where I refined my eye for conformation, movement, and the unique qualities of various bloodlines.
Beyond judging, my time abroad also allowed me to enhance my skills in dressage and keuring preparation—essential elements in showcasing the true potential of the Friesian horse. These experiences have not only enriched my professional capabilities but also strengthened my commitment to preserving and promoting the breed with integrity and passion.
Today, I bring this wealth of knowledge and international experience to my work in Australia, where I continue to strive for excellence in every horse I breed, train, and present.
To date this small but mighty stud is the proud producer of 11 State Keuring Champions across Australia since 2006. It is also the only stud to breed a Model mare. We were lucky enough for the Dutch Friesian magazine Phyrso, to publish a multiple page article about Australia's first model mare So Special KP.
