I have been at the University of Western Australia since 1981 as a Professor of Economics and Emeritus Professor. I have worked on a variety of topics including international finance, monetary economics and applied microeconomics. I have been lucky to have supervised a number of very talented research students. My research has been supported by a series of grants from BHP and the Australian Research Council and has been published widely.
Bob Gregory of the ANU and I initiated the annual PhD Conference in Economics and Business. The series has been running for almost 40 years and involved more than 1,000 of the brightest PhD students from around Australia and elsewhere. There are 7 universities as partners of the conferences: ANU, Melbourne, Monash, Sydney, UQ, UNSW and UWA. The 2025 conference was hosted by UNSW.
