KEM Creative Studios teaches art classes to children in the homeless community. Each of our lessons integrates advanced techniques, professional-quality art supplies, and an opportunity for expression and self-reflection. We have developed curricula involving perspective; proportions; tints and shades; primary, secondary, tertiary, and complementary colors; and a number of other art skills. Every class is tailored to provide students with the opportunity to integrate their personal experiences and emotions into their work.
Our goal is to share the joy of art with others in our community by teaching technical art classes to children with limited access to art opportunities. Throughout our experience teaching art, we have seen many students enter the class believing that they could not draw, and emerge as more confident artists and individuals. The art allows them some relief from life’s challenges and a time to simply enjoy themselves and become inspired through the realization of their capabilities in creating art.
Throughout the past four years, KEM Creative Studios has introduced professional grade media and complex art techniques to more than 490 students across Los Angeles and Guatemala. We recruited and trained fifteen Art Ambassadors; we managed forty volunteers during our summer camp; and we painted a mural at Alexandria House.
All kids deserve opportunities to explore and pursue their passions so that they can lead amazing lives. The Dragon Kim Foundation provides funding to enable children to explore and pursue their passions within Academics, Athletics, and the Arts.
The Dragon Kim Fellowship program awards community service grants to support motivated high school students that want to create and manage a program during the summer of 2017 that will impact their community. This fellowship is in honor of Dragon Kim, a talented musician, athlete, and scholar who wanted to help others. The Dragon Kim Foundation is providing mentors, training, funding and support to ensure the success of the projects run by talented students who were selected from a competitive applicant pool.
