I hold myself to a very high standard in my personal life and in my dance life. I maintain a positive outlook and try to find the positve in every situation. I believe that people need to always to be kind to each other no matter what. I always hold myself to that and always aim to be kind to others. I grew up wanting to make the world a better place. So, I knew as an artist and as a future teacher to other young artists, I wanted to make the world a better place for them and for myself to live in.
This core value of kindness is seen in me as a person and as a choreographer. I want to make choreography that shows how to be good, thoughtful humans. I want to show the audience how to take care of themselves and care for others. I want to be able to teach core life lessons, either about kindness or real-world matters. I do not want to focus so much on technique and ballet standards.
I want to make work that reflects important values in my life. I also want to make works that I am proud of and make the audience feel something. The audience enjoys a show, so why not put on a show for the audience. My choreograhpy will say, "this is important to me and here is me."
When creating works, I like to get to know my cast and set up an open environment from the beginning. The room I am in becomes a space for emotions, home, and love. The cast needs to love the art of dance the same way I love dance. Create that room for emotions to be poured out and be heard when no one else is listening. I need the audience and dancers to feel that everyone and everything should and will always be accepted in the world and my classroom.
