For this project, I wanted to write a worksheet depicting the methodology I plan to incorporate into my Equine Assisted Grief Therapy. Each page builds upon the elements of gold star widows, grief and equine therapy. I have incorporated readings regarding the stages of grief (Harvard), as well as, psychological and physiological benefits from the presence of horses (PTSD Association of Canada). The last two pages of my worksheets are various exercises that I will incorporate into my therapy that directly impact a specific stage of grief. The goal is to acknowledge the emotion of each stage but also offer a positive corresponding emotion/feeling to experience as well. Albert Einstein once said, "the only source of knowledge is experience." I have based most of my methodology throughout my worksheets on this quote, afterall, there is no greater teacher than life itself. I am a gold star widow and this has become a labor of love in a way. My horse has helped me through the darkest days of my grief journey in a way that is both indescribable and immeasurable. It is with this feeling and understanding that I want to help other widows experiencing their own journey of loss.
