For our behavior management system, we use rewards points, similar to a previous app with little monsters that we are no longer approved to use. Students are expected to follow directions, respect their peers and teachers, and work hard. Students will earn points for meeting those expectations. Every other Friday, we will have "Treasure Box" where students can exchange their points for prizes. If you would like to donate any prizes (pencils, erasers, key chains, stickers, small toys, etc.) that would be greatly appreciated!
Students are encouraged to read at least 20 minutes each night, whether that's following along as a grown-up reads or practicing their own reading. Starting in September, I will send home OPTIONAL monthly homework packets and calendars. If students do any extra math or reading practice (from the packet or something else), their grown-up can initial that day's box. I will collect the calendars at the end of each month and students will get extra points for their hard work!! You do not need to send the completed packets back in, they are yours to keep for extra practice, but you can send them in if you forget to fill out the calendar.
I will let you know when parents are allowed to start joining their child for lunch; usually it isn't for the first few weeks. Our lunch is 11:15-11:40. Please sign in at the office and wait for your child in the lobby area. You are welcome to eat at a separate table with them in the cafeteria or at a picnic table outside. You can bring outside food for your child but not for any other children in the class. It is helpful if you give me a heads up that you are coming in because we occasionally have lunch in the classroom due to special events and you would not be able to come at that time.
Happy Birthday! You may send in a store bought treat for your child's birthday. I will make all parents aware of any allergies in the class to be mindful of. You can drop the treat off in the office during the day or join your student for lunch and bring it then. Birthday treats will be enjoyed in the cafeteria.
Students are expected to complete 3 math and 3 reading iReady lessons each week in order to earn Fun Friday. They will be given plenty of time in class to complete these lessons but if they would like to complete extra lessons or if they need additional time, they may do iReady at home. Your child will may login through the iReady app on a personal device. Please send me an email if they do not remember their login at home so I can share it with you.
