KeepRecipe ("the app", "we") is a recipe app that keeps your cooking life on your device. This policy explains exactly what data the app handles, what leaves your device, and who processes it. We built KeepRecipe to collect as little as possible.
The short version: KeepRecipe has no accounts, no ads, no analytics, and no tracking. Your recipes, meal plans, grocery lists, and photos stay on your device. The only data that ever leaves your device is the recipe link or text you choose to import (or the recipe you ask to make healthier), which is sent to our import service so it can be turned into a structured recipe.
Everything you create in KeepRecipe is stored locally on your device using Apple's on-device database:
Recipes (titles, ingredients, steps, notes, tags, source links)
Recipe photos you add or take
Meal plans, grocery lists, and cookbooks
This data is not uploaded to us or to any server. It is included in your device's normal encrypted backups (iCloud/Finder) if you have those enabled — that backup is controlled by Apple and your device settings, not by us.
Camera — used only when you choose to photograph a dish or scan a printed or handwritten recipe card. Recipe-card scanning (text recognition) runs entirely on your device and the photo is never sent anywhere. The recognized text may then be sent to our import service to be turned into a structured recipe — see section 3.
Photo Library — used only when you pick a photo to attach to a recipe. The photo stays on your device.
Images are never transmitted to us or any third party.
When you import a recipe from a link or shared post, or use Make it Healthier, KeepRecipe sends the relevant text to our import service so it can extract a structured recipe. Specifically:
The recipe URL and/or the caption/description text you are importing,
The text recognized from a recipe card you scanned (the photo itself stays on your device), or
The recipe's text (ingredients and steps) when you ask to make it healthier, or
The recipe's ingredients when a nutrition estimate is generated because the recipe can't be calculated from the on-device food table.
To do this we use:
Cloudflare — hosts our lightweight import service (a "Worker") that receives the request. See Cloudflare's privacy policy: https://www.cloudflare.com/privacypolicy/
Anthropic (Claude) — our service passes the text to Anthropic's API, which reads it and returns the structured recipe or suggested swaps. See Anthropic's privacy policy: https://www.anthropic.com/legal/privacy
We do not send your name, email, account, device identifiers, location, or your stored recipe library. The request is not linked to your identity, and our import service does not keep its own copy of the text. Anthropic processes the text under its commercial API terms and does not use it to train its models; it may retain API inputs for a limited period for safety and abuse-prevention purposes, as described in their privacy policy linked above.
If you never use the import or Make-it-Healthier features, no data leaves your device.
When you import from a recipe website, the app also fetches that web page directly (the same as opening it in a browser) to read its contents.
We do not require an account or collect your name or email.
We do not use advertising or third-party ad networks.
We do not use analytics or tracking SDKs.
We do not track you across apps or websites, and we do not use the Advertising Identifier (IDFA).
We do not sell or share your data.
KeepRecipe is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
You can use KeepRecipe fully offline by adding recipes manually — nothing is sent off your device.
You can delete any recipe, photo, plan, or list at any time within the app.
Deleting the app removes all locally stored data from your device.
If we change how the app handles data, we will update this policy and its effective date.
