If you want precise sound localization and a wired connection for critical listening or gaming, choose keephifi KZ Taurus; if you need long battery life, active noise cancellation, and wireless freedom for daily commutes or workouts, choose JBL Live 660NC.
• keephifi KZ Taurus: Offers horizontal dual dynamic drivers for immersive sound staging and a tangle-free detachable cable, but requires a wired connection and lacks active noise cancellation.
• JBL Live 660NC: Delivers up to 50 hours of battery life with adaptive noise cancellation and Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity, though the over-ear design is bulkier than in-ear options.
• Who it's for: The Taurus fits audiophiles, gamers, and musicians needing detailed monitoring, while the Live 660NC suits travelers, commuters, and runners prioritizing convenience and isolation.
The keephifi KZ Taurus is engineered for people who treat audio as a craft rather than just background noise. Its core identity lies in the horizontal placement of two 8mm dynamic drivers. This specific configuration is not merely a marketing gimmick; it is designed to create a distinct sense of sound localization. When you are wearing these buds, the separation between instruments feels wider and more defined than standard vertical driver setups. This makes them an exceptional tool for musicians, singers, and drummers who need to hear exactly where a snare hit lands or where a vocal harmony sits in the mix. If you are an audiophile looking to dissect a recording, the frequency response range extending up to 40,000 Hz suggests a level of detail that captures nuances often lost in consumer-grade gear.
Comfort is another pillar of the Taurus design, specifically tailored for extended wear without fatigue. The earpiece shape follows the natural contours of the ear canal, and the enclosure is made from polycarbonate (PC), a material known for durability and a smooth finish. Even after prolonged sessions during a marathon gaming match or a long practice set, the "no stress" fit remains consistent. The inclusion of colorful premium silicone ear tips ensures a secure seal, which is crucial for achieving the passive sound isolation mentioned in the specs. This isolation works by physically blocking out ambient noise, allowing you to focus entirely on the music. However, this reliance on physical sealing means they do not have electronic noise cancellation, so your environment will still be audible unless the ear tips provide a perfect seal.

Connectivity for the KZ Taurus is strictly wired via a 3.5 mm jack. While this might seem like a limitation in a wireless world, it is actually a feature for those who demand zero latency and absolute signal purity. There is no compression algorithm interfering with the audio stream. The package includes a tangle-free detachable cable, which solves one of the most annoying aspects of wired headphones: the mess. You can swap cables if one breaks, and the push-button control allows for basic media management without reaching for your phone. These earbuds are built for the person who carries their music source in their pocket or connects directly to a desktop setup. They are not designed for the gym runner who wants to shake off sweat and forget about wires; they are for the stationary listener who values fidelity above all else.
The JBL Live 660NC serves a completely different demographic, targeting the modern user who lives on the go and demands versatility. As over-ear headphones, they sit circumaurally around the ear, utilizing soft ear cushions and a comfort-fit fabric headband. This design choice prioritizes long-term comfort for users who wear headphones for hours while traveling, working, or exercising. The fabric headband distributes weight evenly, preventing the clamping force issues common with cheaper plastic bands. For someone looking for sleep headphones for running or simply wanting to block out the chaos of a busy city street, the Adaptive Noise Cancellation (ANC) is the star feature. Unlike the passive isolation of the KZ Taurus, the JBL actively analyzes and cancels out external sounds, creating a quiet bubble even when you are in a noisy environment.
Battery life is where the JBL Live 660NC truly separates itself from almost any wired competitor. This longevity eliminates the anxiety of charging devices mid-day. Furthermore, the Speed Charge feature is a game-changer for the forgetful user; a quick 10-minute charge provides an extra 4 hours of playback. This is ideal for the commuter who rushes out the door, plugs in for a coffee break, and heads back to the train. The wireless nature is powered by Bluetooth 5.0, ensuring a stable connection that supports Multi-Point Connection. This allows you to seamlessly switch between a video on your tablet and a call on your mobile phone without disconnecting and reconnecting manually.
Sound quality on the JBL Live 660NC is driven by 40mm dynamic drivers, which deliver what JBL calls "Signature Sound." This implies a rich, venue-like audio experience that is optimized for enjoyment rather than analytical scrutiny. The inclusion of Ambient Aware technology adds a layer of safety for outdoor activities; it amplifies ambient sounds so you can hear traffic while walking busy streets. Similarly, TalkThru technology lowers music volume and amplifies speech, making conversations effortless without removing the headphones. The microphone system supports stereo calls with VoiceAware, letting you control how much of your own voice you hear during a call. For the runner or the traveler, these features combine to create a safe, connected, and uninterrupted audio experience. It is a device built for the person who wants their music to follow them everywhere, adapting to the environment rather than forcing the environment to stop.

• Best for active noise cancellation → JBL Live 660NC: Only the JBL offers electronic ANC to silence engines, planes, and crowds; the KZ Taurus relies solely on physical isolation.
• Best for wired purists and zero latency → keephifi KZ Taurus: The 3.5 mm jack guarantees uncompressed audio transmission with no pairing delays.
• Best for comfort during long travel sessions → JBL Live 660NC: The fabric headband and over-ear design reduce pressure points better than in-ear buds for many users.
• Best for portability and minimalism → keephifi KZ Taurus: The compact bud size fits easily in pockets, whereas the over-ear JBL requires a carrying pouch.
• Best for safety awareness outdoors → JBL Live 660NC: Ambient Aware lets you hear your surroundings without taking the headphones off.
• Best for musicians and audiophiles → keephifi KZ Taurus: The 40kHz frequency response and detailed driver layout cater to critical listening needs.
In my opinion, if you are buying these specifically for running, the JBL Live 660NC is the safer and more practical choice. The wireless freedom combined with the robust battery life and safety features like Ambient Aware makes it far less likely to fail or cause distraction during a workout. However, I would never recommend the JBL for a musician trying to mix tracks or a gamer needing pinpoint directional audio; for those use cases, the keephifi KZ Taurus remains the undisputed champion. The Taurus offers a level of sonic clarity and physical fit that over-ear headphones simply cannot replicate. Ultimately, I would buy the JBL for my daily commute and gym bag because the convenience factors outweigh the slight loss in audio resolution. But if I were sitting at a desk analyzing a new album or playing a high-stakes shooter, I would reach for the KZ Taurus every time. The decision comes down to whether you value the experience of sound or the freedom to move.
The KZ Taurus is a wired in-ear monitor, which makes it prone to cable snagging and tangling during vigorous movement. The JBL Live 660NC is wireless with a secure over-ear fit, making it significantly better suited for running and active use.
The JBL Live 660NC supports Speed Charging via a USB-C connection for its battery, allowing for quick power-ups. The KZ Taurus uses a 3.5 mm wired connection and does not have a rechargeable battery, so it does not require USB-C charging.
The JBL Live 660NC provides active noise cancellation (ANC) that electronically blocks out low-frequency rumbles and chatter. The KZ Taurus relies only on passive isolation from the silicone tips, which is effective but less powerful against loud environments.
Yes, the keephifi KZ Taurus is explicitly designed for gaming with its horizontal dual drivers for sound localization. The JBL Live 660NC can also be used for gaming via Bluetooth or a 3.5 mm aux cable (if available on the unit), but the Taurus offers superior positional audio for competitive play.
