Route 12 / Main Street Bridge Over Beaver Brook

Welcome to the project website for the Route 12 / Main Street Bridge!

The Route 12 / Main Street bridge was built in 1961 and consists of dual corrugated metal plate culverts. The culverts pass Beaver Brook underneath the roadway. The culverts are in poor condition and require replacement to maintain their safety and function. The bridge is on the State of New Hampshire DOT Red List, a list of state-owned bridges requiring interim inspections due to poor condition and/or weight limit postings. These structures are inspected twice per year.

The City is replacing this bridge as part of the State's Municipal Bridge Aid Program. This program shares the cost of bridge repair/replacement between the community and the State. The State provides 80% of the funding, and the City 20%.

In 2014 the City hired Louis Berger to prepare preliminary and final construction plans for the bridge replacement. In the fall of 2017 the City entered into a contract with B.U.R. Construction LLC to replace the bridge. The culverts will be replaced with dual precast concrete box culverts. Utilities underneath the bridge will also be replaced. Following bridge construction, the roadway pavement in the immediate area will be rehabilitated.

The project is managed by the Keene Public Works Department - Engineering Division. Louis Berger will perform daily construction observation of the work. Questions and concerns regarding this project can be directed to the Public Works Department at 603-352-6550. Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding as the City works to replace this important piece of our transportation infrastructure.
