As I move towards expanding my design capabilities into the world of brand identities for companies, corporations, or organizations, I've been willing and able to provide design help for any number of relevant circumstances. I got in touch with the founder of The Marriage Project, a Provo, Utah based matchmaking service, about designing some logos for the project and she was more than happy with how these logos came together. Combining a ubiquitous symbol of marriage, like the diamond, with imagery tied to LDS temples with the project's Latter-Day Saint focus, the logo emphasizes what the founder hoped to build matches and new relationships for: temple marriages.
Designing a personal logo for my creative endeavors, which include writing and music, is especially important when one of my most prominent creative interests is logos and brand identities themselves. I've always loved my last name and felt the icons tied to my family's crest and the etymology of the name itself were strong icons to build a brand around. The final result is a logo I've felt more than happy to use for several years now, and a logo I plan to use for many years to come.
In early 2024, I had the opportunity to set aside substantial time to explore a passion project: Utah basketball and graphic design. I designed a home and away uniform for every program at every level of Utah's basketball system, from high school to the Jazz, excluding most of the private/charter schools. From 4A onward each program was given an appropriate jersey sponsor patch. The entire project helped me further refine my design style and capabilities, while also aiding me in familiarizing myself with the many high schools throughout the state.
From Monticello to EskDale, all the smallest public high schools within Utah.
From Kanab to Water Canyon, the next smallest high schools within Utah, now featuring jersey logos.
From Union to Juan Diego, many of the mid-size high schools within Utah, now featuring the UHSAA icon logo.
From Payson to Deseret Peak, many of the other mid-size high schools within Utah, now featuring community-relevant jersey sponsorship patches.
From West to West Field, many of the biggest high schools within Utah.
From American Fork to Mountain Ridge, the absolute biggest high schools within Utah.
Utah's three NJCAA-competing college sports institutions.
Utah's eight NCAA-competing college sports institutions.
Utah's minor league, G-League affiliate of the NBA's Utah Jazz. Three separate uniform sets, inspired in order by the 1970's ABA championship-winning Utah Stars, the mid-2020's Utah Jazz highlighter scheme, and the short-lived WNBA debut Starzz franchise.
Utah's long standing NBA franchise. Three separate uniform sets, inspired in order by the 2024 "City" Uniform, a collection of elements from various eras of Jazz history, and the mid 2020's highlighter scheme.
In 2023, I completed the Hyrule Basketball League Project, which was a design project in which I designed brand packages for eight fictitious basketball franchises within the fictitious video game world of The Legend of Zelda's Hyrule Kingdom. This included a brand package for the league itself, its official uniform outfitter, and the league's All-Star game hosted by one of its eight franchises.
For this team’s location in the hub of Hylian life and a “big market,” I felt that using teams like the Knicks and Lakers from the NBA as design inspirations was fitting. Therefore, there’s a feeling of history and tradition, but also that “big budget” type of feeling with the fancy 3d lettering on the uniforms.
I used teams of tradition like the Boston Celtics and the Cincinnati Royals of old as influences for this team. I was really happy with how this one turned out, especially with the integration of the symbols from the Shadow Medallion into the primary logo, alongside a basketball added to the classic Sheikah symbol.
A secluded team in a wooded area; this combined with a heavy-green focus made the Milwaukee Bucks a clear influence. Of all the primary logos, this one might be the one of which I’m most proud! Additionally, the silhouetted tree line on the court gave this one a great overall style.
For some reason, expansion teams like the Toronto Raptors felt like apt sources of inspiration, most likely because of the colour scheme I ended up choosing.
The side profile Octorok in the logo was in part inspired by the Atlanta Hawks “Pac-Man” logo, while the colours in some respects were influenced by the old Washington Wizards’ scheme.
This might honestly be my favorite all-around design. The colors of course owe some inspiration to the Phoenix Suns, but in this case I’ve gone with darker hues and an overall emphasis on black. The “sinister” appearance is fitting for one of the more menacing entities in the game.
This might be my favorite logo of the bunch; for the overall style, the styles of the ABA felt appropriate.
The logo was mostly inspired by the NFL’s Pittsburgh Steelers, simply because of the incorporation of a variety of colours. Those 6 colourful symbols are the 6 medallions that each sage holds in the game. Along with that imagery, I decided to emphasize gold, white, and a touch of black as the main colours.
I figure this all-star game would be like the NBA and be hosted by different teams/cities every year, so this design is for a Kakariko hosted game.
