Serving the children of Kent, Ohio and their families since 1946
KEA has been in existence since 1946 and, as of 1981, has been independent of state and national affiliation. Kent Education Association has successfully maintained its independence and strength as a professional organization due to the hard work of its members. Because KEA is independent, it is able to offer similar, yet unique, services to those of the OEA, but at a very reasonable rate.
The strength of KEA is based on our membership which is consistently at 95% or more of certified staff. Members in each building elect trustees based on a 1:10 ratio. Trustees meet monthly to decide on issues facing the association and its members. Officers, consisting of President, First Vice President, Second Vice President, Treasurer, and Communications Coordinator, are elected annually. In addition, the association has a number of committees (both standing and ad hoc) which assist officers and trustees in the day-to-day functioning of KEA.
The President and Vice Presidents facilitate open communication with Central Office Administration through monthly scheduled pre-board meetings. They also meet with high school and middle school principals on a regular basis and with elementary principals on an as-needed basis. The President and/or Vice President(s) attend each of the monthly Board of Education meetings.
The KEA President can be available on an as-needed basis for consultation.
The KEA Legal Fund is available to any member who has demonstrated to the Professional Rights & Responsibilities Committee a need for professional legal help arising from work-related concerns.
The association provides monetary and volunteer support for bond issues and levy campaigns as voted by the membership.
The association annually presents a KEA Scholarship to a promising RHS Senior who has made education his or her career choice.
