Our Inspiration
A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada
KCSOC is deeply influenced by the teachings of A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, or Srila Prabhupada, a revered saint who journeyed to the West to spread the spiritual joy of Krishna Consciousness.
Despite facing immense challenges, including two heart attacks during his voyage to New York City in 1965 with only $7 and sacred Sanskrit texts, Srila Prabhupada founded the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) on July 11, 1966. Over the following 11 years, he traveled extensively, circling the globe 14 times to disseminate Lord Krishna's teachings.
Srila Prabhupada's legacy includes establishing hundreds of ISKCON centers worldwide, temples, educational institutions, and initiating the world's largest vegetarian food relief program. His prolific writings, comprising over 70 volumes, are esteemed for their authority and depth, with translations in 76 languages, including renowned works like "Bhagavad-gita As It Is" and "Srimad-Bhagavatam."
