If you want a comprehensive marine maintenance kit with magnetic and non-magnetic options for your Mercury or MerCruiser engine, choose KCMOSGI 4; if you need a single, high-strength carbon steel drain plug specifically sized for your Chevrolet or Buick hybrid sedan, choose TSIEBRV M14×1.5. These two parts serve completely different mechanical ecosystems, yet both are critical for preventing fluid leaks in their respective vehicles. The decision isn't about which brand is more popular; it is entirely about whether your vehicle runs on water or land, and which thread specification matches your oil pan or lower unit.
• KCMOSGI 4: Offers a complete 4-piece kit with both magnetic and non-magnetic stainless steel plugs, ideal for outboard engines where debris collection matters most.
• TSIEBRV M14×1.5: Delivers a single, galvanized carbon steel plug with an O-ring seal, designed strictly for GM compact cars and hybrids requiring M14×1.5 threads.
• Best for: KCMOSGI 4 fits boat owners with MerCruiser or Mariner motors who need to swap multiple plugs at once; TSIEBRV M14×1.5 is the precise fit for GM hybrid owners needing a direct OEM replacement for one specific bolt.
This product is engineered specifically for the harsh environment of marine propulsion systems. If you own a Mercury, Mariner, or MerCruiser outboard motor (excluding the Verado series), this kit addresses the specific requirements of draining gear case oil from the lower unit. The design philosophy here focuses on versatility and long-term protection against metal shavings. You receive four distinct plugs: two magnetic screws and two non-magnetic counterparts. This split configuration is not arbitrary; it allows you to target ferrous particles that might accumulate in the gear case while having non-magnetic backups ready for holes that do not require magnetism.
The materials selected for this kit prioritize durability in saltwater conditions. Constructed from high-quality stainless steel and rubber, these plugs are built to resist corrosion and wear over time. The inclusion of sealing washers ensures a leak-proof seal when tightened, which is vital since any seepage in a lower unit can lead to catastrophic gear failure. The dimensions are tailored for 3/8-16 drain or fill hole screws, with the magnetic units measuring approximately 0.55 x 0.67 inches and the non-magnetic ones around 0.55 x 0.35 inches. Before purchasing, confirming these dimensions against your current hardware is essential, as marine threads can vary slightly between older and newer models.
You should buy the KCMOSGI 4 if you are performing routine maintenance on a stern drive or outboard motor and want to replace all your drain plugs simultaneously. It is also the right choice if your current plugs are missing or if you prefer the added security of magnetic screws catching metal debris during operation. It is a bulk solution for a specific marine niche, not a universal automotive part.

In contrast, the TSIEBRV M14×1.5 is a precision-engineered component for internal combustion engines found in modern passenger vehicles. This plug is designed exclusively for General Motors platforms, fitting a wide range of Chevrolet, Buick, and Cadillac models produced between 2011 and 2021. If you drive a Chevrolet Sonic, Trax, Cruze, or Volt, or a Buick Encore or Cadillac ELR, this is likely the exact part you need to replace a stripped or worn-out drain bolt. The focus here is on direct compatibility with the factory specifications rather than versatility across different thread types.
The construction relies on selected carbon steel that has been galvanized to provide superior rust resistance compared to standard uncoated bolts. This galvanization is crucial because engine bays operate in high-temperature environments where moisture and road salt can accelerate corrosion. The plug features a robust O-ring rubber sealing gasket that compresses upon tightening to create a tight fit against the oil pan. This mechanism prevents oil overflow and maintains stable engine performance by ensuring no leaks occur during operation. The physical dimensions are specific: a total size of roughly 1.11 x 1.11 x 1.08 inches with a hexagonal head diameter of 0.39 inch, ensuring it fits standard wrenches used in typical home garages.
You should choose the TSIEBRV M14×1.5 if you are performing an oil change on a compatible GM vehicle and need a reliable, heavy-duty replacement for the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) number 55568037. It is particularly valuable for hybrid car owners who rely on their gasoline engines for extended range or regeneration cycles and cannot afford an oil leak. However, this part is not for boats, trucks, or foreign vehicles. If your thread pitch is anything other than M14×1.5, or if you need a magnetic screw, this single-unit kit will not work. It is a targeted solution for a specific automotive application, offering high strength and hardness without the extra components found in marine kits.
• Vehicle Type → Marine outboards require KCMOSGI 4; GM sedans/hybrids require TSIEBRV M14×1.5.
• Thread Specification → Look for 3/8-16 threads on KCMOSGI 4; look for M14×1.5 threads on TSIEBRV.
• Kit Contents → KCMOSGI 4 provides a 4-piece set with mixed magnetic properties; TSIEBRV offers a single, standardized plug.
• Material Focus → Stainless steel and rubber dominate KCMOSGI 4 for saltwater resistance; carbon steel with galvanization defines TSIEBRV for heat and rust resistance.
• Sealing Method → KCMOSGI 4 uses separate sealing washers; TSIEBRV utilizes an integrated O-ring gasket.
• Debris Management → Magnetic screws in KCMOSGI 4 actively catch metal shavings; TSIEBRV relies on standard filtration via the oil itself.
• Replacement Scope → Buy KCMOSGI 4 to refresh all drain points on a lower unit; buy TSIEBRV to fix a single oil pan leak on a car.
• Compatibility Range → KCMOSGI 4 works with Mercury/Mariner brands; TSIEBRV works with Chevrolet/Buick/Cadillac lines.
When I evaluate these two products, the distinction is so sharp that there is rarely any confusion once you identify the vehicle type. For anyone owning a hybrid car, specifically a GM model like the Cruze or Volt, the TSIEBRV M14×1.5 is the only logical choice. Its galvanized carbon steel construction and precise M14×1.5 threading are engineered to withstand the thermal cycles of an automotive engine bay, making it the superior option for that specific use case. Conversely, if your question relates to maintaining a boat, the KCMOSGI 4 is the clear winner due to its dual-purpose magnetic and non-magnetic configuration. In my opinion, buying the wrong one is not just a waste of money but a risk to your engine's health, so matching the spec sheet to your vehicle is the only path forward.
No, the KCMOSGI 4 is designed for 3/8-16 marine threads and is incompatible with the M14×1.5 automotive threads required by GM vehicles. Using the wrong thread can strip the oil pan.
No, the TSIEBRV M14×1.5 is a standard non-magnetic carbon steel bolt. It relies on the O-ring for sealing and does not include magnetic properties like the marine version.
The KCMOSGI 4 uses stainless steel to resist saltwater corrosion, while the TSIEBRV M14×1.5 uses galvanized carbon steel to handle high engine temperatures and road grime.
Both utilize premium materials suited for their environments; the KCMOSGI 4 offers durability through stainless steel, while the TSIEBRV offers strength through hardened carbon steel, so longevity depends on the operating environment.
