What is NMA?

The New Media Arts (NMA) Program at Kapi‘olani Community College strives to transform students into creative thinkers, problem solvers, and visual communicators. The rigorous two year program trains students in a wide variety of creative concepts to prepare them for careers in the fields of animation and web design.

With two unique specializations, students can choose their pathway—Animation or Interface Design. Small class sizes of fifteen students and industry-seasoned faculty provide academic support and individualized attention to help students achieve their outcomes.

NMA Degree Information

Animation

The Animation track prepares students for careers in 3D computer animation, video game development, and emerging industries employing 3D computer graphics. Topics include the full computer graphics (cg) pipeline, film analysis and storytelling, digital painting, and demo reel development.


Interface Design

The Interface Design track prepares students for careers as interface designers with a focus on web design. Topics include graphic design, typography, graphic symbolism, user interface design, front-end web development, and motion graphic design. Additional courses include digital imaging, design history, and portfolio development.
