Design Statement
Faustus is trapped in a system that places the Earth between Heaven and Hell, with both realms having their own way of entrapping souls. This dichotomy creates an Earth where time and space exist untethered from their natural laws; Faustus is surrounded by magic and the sudden appearance of demons and angels. The soundscape of the piece is meant to mimic this world by not sticking to a certain period, with musical scores spanning decades of history. Sound effects were used to reinforce the magical effects throughout Doctor Faustus, such as a gusting wind as Faustus' magic warps reality to his whim or the fabric of reality is thrown into turbulence by the arrival of the demon Mephistopheles.
