In my classroom we will all be members of a large family. There will be no student left behind all are included in each activity. We will treat each other with constant kindness and respect. Teaching those two principles to these children at a young age will help build up their foundations for the rest of their lives. The children will be able to use their own agency to decide many things in my class room. That will allow them to learn how to make discussions and learn how to be accountable for them. Each day we will be on a new adventure together to learn fun new things that they will take with them forever.
1. Attention Getter's "Call Backs"- Working with Elementary students they need to participate in a creative attention getter. This is a list of all of a bunch of fun sayings to get the children's attention throughout the day. Having the students involved will help to make it funner for them. Each morning I am going to say "Good-morning class" and they will reply "Good-morning Ms Christian". That way every morning they will start their day with a big kind "Good-Morning". That will also help them with their own greetings when they meet new people.
2. Daily,Weekly,Monthly Calendar- Every morning the students will sit in front of the calendar and we will briefly go over all of the activities for the day. That way we will all know what the agenda is and no student will be unaware of their tasks for the day. That will give me a good time to address and sing Happy birthday to those certain children.
3. Selected Student Daily Tasks- Each day I will assign certain tasks to select students. Each student by the end of the school year will get the chance to do each task. Some of the tasks will include paper distributors, table leaders, line leaders and a caboose ( who will hold open doors). Children love to feel needed and these jobs will give them that opportunity.
4. Assigned Seating- Seating arrangements will be changed on a weekly basis. That will give them the chance to meet new friends and learn how to socialize. Its very important for each student to get familiar with each other to create a bond between them. Each group or pod of students will be assigned a group leader. The group leaders responsibilities are to watch out for their team, come to me with any concerns, and also to hand in all of their groups papers.
5. Hallway Expectations- When traveling to a new classroom, recess or even lunch the students will be in a single file orderly line. That way they will learn how to follow directions and pay attention when they are asked to.
6. After recess- the will line up again and they will have to become completely silent before they are allowed to return to the classroom. That way they will know that outside and inside behaviors are expected to be different.
7. Hand Signals- At the beginning of the school year each student will learn a set of hand signals. That way I will know exactly what they need at that moment and will be able to asses it properly. The signals will be for questions, tissues, pencils, drinks and of course using the restroom.
8. Preparing for lunch- Each student will put a red or blue Popsicle stick in pocket with their name. Red will stand for hot lunch and blue will be cold lunch. That way I will know what to turn in. Also, that will be a nice way for me to do attendance each day.
9. Dismissal- The student will be dismissed in a line to the buses. Students being picked up will need to personally show me their parents so that I know they are safe.
