About Me

Hello! I'm Kayla, a reader, writer, and lover of words. I've felt a yearning to get lost in books ever since I learned to read. Throughout my childhood, I was never seen without a book stowed in my arms. I often took part in reading challenges organized by my local library. In school, I joined reading clubs, participated in spelling bees, statewide book competitions, and later in high school created a writing group with those of similar interests. In college, I pursued creative writing as my minor and submitted multiple original pieces to poetry magazines, one of which was published in Silent Spark Press in 2022, and another that was featured on the homepage of PoetrySoup in December of 2025. 

Since graduating in May of 2025, I've discovered something called free time (!) which I am using to start a second draft of my novel The Humble Phoenix. I am taking this opportunity to read/write more, take creative writing classes online through edX, create this blog to which I hope to contribute to consistently, and connect with others in the writing industry. My dream is to publish my novel and someday own a cozy book store/coffee shop, stacked with second hand books, warm lighting, and snug reading nooks. I have a wonderful fiance who has been my #1 supporter in everything I do, so anything I achieve from here on out will be credited to him. <3
