Who is Kayla Michelle?
Kayla Michelle Annaliese Pisano is a theatre kid turned theatre major currently in college. Ever since she was little, the only constant she found in her life was her passion for the arts, especially the theatre. She saw her first Broadway show when she was four and fell in love. It was only a few years before Kayla decided she wanted to be on the stage too, where that love would become a dedication for the rest of her life. As she got older, Kayla continued to work on her craft, as someone both onstage, offstage, and backstage. Kayla’s dream is to create theatrical experiences that others will fall in love with just like she did, be it by her performance, contribution, or creation.
Personal Statement:
I am a multi-hyphenate theatremaker and writer studying at Rollins College as a Theatre major and English minor. I want to be known for bringing unique ephemeral experiences to New York, Florida, and wherever my journey takes me, whether through my performance, creation, direction, or research. I help theatre kids young and old to create and thrive in a world where passions are prioritized by thinking beyond the box.
Positionality Statement:
I fully believe that the theatre’s doors, curtains, and all are meant to be open to everyone. As a queer and neurodivergent artist, I understand what it’s like to be different. But, I also understand that I will never know what it is like to be discriminated against as artists of color, transgender artists and others do due to my privilege. I would like to acknowledge said privilege and make it known that I always will put in my best effort to be an understanding individual to all. I would also like to acknowledge that the land I was lucky to grow up and make art in rightfully belongs to Indigenous communities. Because my view can be limited, I encourage conversations about these topics; I am always eager to learn.
