Dubai is well-known for its excellent selection of restaurants and cafés. However, according to freelance photographer Kavan Choksi, the jewel of the UAE is home to many lesser-known places that also deserve the attention of locals and tourists alike. Continue reading to discover some of these hidden gems.
Al Mallah
Started as a juice stand in 1979, Al Mallah has grown into a beloved restaurant serving authentic Lebanese "comfort food" such as its best-selling Grilled Chicken Meal. Al Mallah, located on Al Dhiyafa Road in Al Hudaiba, offers a casual dine-in experience. In a hurry? Don't worry! Takeout is also available.
SEVA Table
Vegans in Dubai will love this place, says Kavan Choksi. This UAE restaurant offers various menu options, including gluten-free, soy-free, and plant-based dishes. And you don't want to miss their Cowboy Texas Nachos! SEVA Table, situated in Jumeirah, provides customers with a unique experience because of its wellness facility, gift shop, and live music every Saturday.
Maisan 15
This hidden gem in Barsha South is considered one of the city's best cafés. Showcasing the work of British artist Jonathan Gent, Maisan 15 is known for both great food and its cool style. Customers also fancy the ambiance of the alfresco area, which features a grove of trees that stand over the slanted terrace. Save room for dessert, advises Kavan Choksi, their tiramisu is terrific.
Al Damyati & Iskandaron
This Karama restaurant offers meat lovers some of the best lamb chops in the UAE. Kavan Choksi also notes that its kebabs, shish taouk, and falafel balls are to die for. Al Damyati & Iskandaron is often packed with people during breakfast, lunch, and dinner, so be sure to head there a little earlier to ensure you get a table.
