Teaching

Dr. Das teaches undergraduate physics courses at UMES. Apart from that he has taught graduate level Fluid Mechanics, Heat and Mass Transfer, Computational Fluid Dynamics, Introduction to Nanotechnology and Mechanics of Materials.

Concept-Cartoon based clicker questions for student engagement and enhancing student self-efficacy.

In collaboration with cartoonist Larry Gonick Dr. Das is developing concept-cartoon based physics questions for classroom use. The goal of these questions is to engage diverse students in vigorous peer-to-peer discussions and encourage critical thinking via these cartoon questions.

They have developed hundreds of undergraduate-level physics questions, focusing on concepts that are often confusing to a learner. Dr. Das wanted to use characters from various cultures for the cartoons so that students from different background feel inclusive in the discussions of these concept cartoon questions. The cartoon questions merged physics and cultural references in an intimate way while taking care of the cultural sensitivity of different race, color and ethnicity.

Here is a list of some cartoon clicker questions developed by Dr. Das and Larry Gonick.

Here is the UMES PR on the cartoon project.

Physics Podcasts

Dr. Das is creating a series of podcasts so that the students can get some guidance and hints in analyzing the clicker questions and get engaged, especially in the virtual environment. Here are some of the podcasts based on the clicker questions.

Mindfulness Through Art

Dr. Das demonstrated how mindfulness can be taught through art at the National Folk Festival.
