Expertise in synthesis of organic linkers through multiple reaction steps and subsequent synthesis of Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs), Covalent-Organic Frameworks (COFs)
Characterization of organic linkers through spectroscopic analyses such as NMR, FT-IR, UV-Vis, Elemental analyses, etc.
Handling and operation of instruments like Single Crystal X-Ray Diffractometer (Agilent Supernova), Powder X-ray Diffractometer (Rigaku and Panalytical), High and low pressure gas adsorption instrument (Quantachrome Autosorb, Quadrasorb, iSorb-HP), GC-MS instrument (Agilent).

On specific instances, during my doctoral research I have worked on

a. Interfacial crystallization of COF thin films and the mechanistic insight

Interfacial crystallization approach of COFs overcomes the long-standing challenge of tedious synthetic procedures (like freeze pump thaw cycle) to produce centimeter-scale thin films (~ 50 nm).

b. Molecular separations with COF thin films

COF thin films exhibit selective molecular separations with solute rejection capabilities and enhanced solvent fluxes.

c. Nanoparticle size fractionation with COF films

The ordered pore channels of the COF films have been demonstrated for size fractionation of gold nanaoparticles. The pore-diameters of the frameworks lead to the sharp size cut-offs.

d. Visualizing hexagonal channels in COF thin films

High crystallinity of the COF thin films allows direct imaging of the hexagonal pore channels.

e. Controlling the self-assembly in COF thin films

Two distinct types of COF thin films (nanofiber and nanosphere based) have been synthesized by controlling the internal order and self-assembly of the same building blocks.

f. Mechanical strength of porous COF thin films

The mechanical behaviour of the thin films was examined by performing nanoindentation experiments. The mechanical properties of COF thin films are mainly governed by the packing efficiency, which is determined by the number, size, and shape of the defects, as well as the molecular nature of the material.

g. Creating Janus-type self-assembly

Controlling the self-assembly at solution interface led to the generation of unique COF-graphene Janus-type thin films.
