NOTE: This also lets the school district know your kiddo will be out of class and gives them the opportunity to grant an excused absence. We have not had difficulties with school districts giving an excused absence in the past.
However, it is at their discretion whether they grant one or not.

The Texas Major Livestock Shows are participating in a program supported by Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service and the Texas Education Agency, Department of Agricultural Education, whereby all 4-H and FFA heifers exhibited at their shows will be required to be validated through the Texas 4-H and FFA Livestock Validation Program. . The validation program will utilize the website www.texaslivestockvalidation.com to house and process validation information. Every year there will be two validations for Major Livestock Shows. One will be held in the Spring for the Fall Major Livestock shows and another will be held in the Fall for Spring Major Livestock shows.
Livestock Project validation tags are ordered twice a year for market and breeding goats, lambs, swine, and heifers. Market steers tags are order ONLY with spring validation.
Swine Tag Ordering – State Fair and Heart of Texas (ONLY)
Deadline for validating all pigs will be June 30, 2021. Time and Place will be posted later at the beginning of June
Purebred (registered gilts) must be validated. Date of ownership, transfer and registration must all be on or before June 30, 2021.
Purebred (registered gilts) must have registration papers uploaded into the validation system by July 15, 2021.
Crossbred gilts showing at the State Fair of Texas and Heart of Texas MUST be validated.
State Validation tags must be in the pigs ear when it enters the holding pens. This means tags cannot be in the hand or pocket. Any pig entering the holding pen without a tag will not be allowed to show.

The beef cattle project allows youth to explore the various aspects of the cattle industry such as livestock selection, nutrition, and animal husbandry. Not only does this project help 4-Hers grow their animal science knowledge, but also allows them to develop important life skills. Youth can become involved with the beef cattle project in many ways.
The meat goat project involves raising and caring for live animals while learning about animal health, nutrition, breeding, selection, and marketing. The 4-H goat project offers outstanding opportunities for individuals to gain experience in decision making, record keeping, responsibility, sportsmanship and leadership.
The sheep project teaches youth to care for live animals while learning about animal health and nutrition, breeding, selection and marketing. In the 4-H sheep project individuals learn decision making, record keeping, responsibility, sportsmanship and leadership. They may participate in market projects, breeding projects and non-competitive projects.
The swine project allows youth to explore the various aspects of the swine industry such as livestock selection, nutrition, and animal husbandry.
The rabbit project teaches proper methods of caring for, raising, breeding and marketing rabbits. There are three project options: Market Rabbit Project (breeding and raising rabbits for meat); Rabbit Breeding Project (breeding and raising rabbits for desired or unique characteristics); and Pet Project (maintaining rabbits for companionship).
Even if you don't own a horse, there are multiple opportunities to be involved with the horse project in 4-H. From horse judging to quiz bowl, there is something for everyone to expand their horse knowledge and skills.
The poultry project teaches members poultry production and marketing by managing poultry projects. Project topics include broilers, capons, turkeys, egg production, and development from egg to chick.
Focused on quality assurance and character education, Quality Counts is designed to teach young people the importance of displaying good character in carrying out livestock projects, and in every aspect of their lives. Quality Counts helps youth exhibitors learn the importance of using proper livestock management practices so that food quality and safety are preserved.

Each student must register individually. Family registration/verification is not allowed.
Info entered into registration must match that provided in the course. Otherwise, the verified number will not populate.
Reminder, you will not receive your Quality Counts number until you complete and pass the course and exam.
