ヒバリガイ

Modiolus nipponicus (Oyama, 1950)

レア度：たまに見られる

形態：貝殻に硬い剛毛をもつイガイ類。3㎝程度で、赤みの強い地色をしているが、生時はさまざまな付着物に覆われてなんだかよくわからない。

生息域：北海道南部から九州に分布し、潮間帯から水深20mの岩礁に生息する。

生態：足糸で付着生活を送る。泥っぽい場所に生息し、群れは形成しない (Senawong 1972)。取り込んだ泥は"偽糞"として体外に排出することができ、殻毛はフィルターとして機能すると考えられている (Senawong 1971)。
