レア度：いつでも見られる
形態：大きさは7㎜くらい。全体に茶褐色。水玉のような形をしており、幅広いほうが前。触角や眼など、体表面に目立つものがないことで扁形動物 (ヒラムシの仲間) と見分けることができる。Hofstenia 属は暗い体色に種々の斑点や色帯を持つものが多い (Hooge et al., 2007) が、本種には何もないことが特徴である。存外動きはすばやい。
生息域：葛登支では、平磯のフジマツモをソーティングするとふつうにみられる。この仲間は岩礁潮間帯のタイドプールで、コンブなどの褐藻に絡みついて生活しているとされる (Hooge et al., 2007)。
生態：長らく扁形動物（ヒラムシの仲間）と考えられていたが、遺伝的な解析から、「珍無腸動物門 Xenacoelamorpha」として独立（Baguñà & Riutort, 2004; Bourlat et al., 2006）。その後の解析で、新口動物（棘皮、半策、脊索動物門を含む）に属することが示唆された（Philippe et al., 2011）。深海性の大型種が見つかったりと、研究はけっこうホットな分類群（Rouse et al., 2016）。
その他：無腸類は "Acoela" と綴るが、英語的な発音は「アセーラ」もしくは「アシーラ」だそうな。
