Roslyn never wanted to be a princess, but when the King and his family die during a sickness her father is crowned king. Roslyn is the bastard daughter of the king and she was very different from the other young noblewomen: she was trained to be a warrior as well as a mage. Unsure of where she belongs, Roslyn embarks on a quest across the ocean to the lands of her mother, a continent that had been cut off from them for the last eighteen years. There she will not only discover who she truly is, but her ancestors have a plan for her as well.

Kamryn is a mage of the Royal Family of Raistminestine who has long been busy with her studies at the University. Her patron wants to send her across the ocean to Jay’Al for research. She travels with her cousin, Princess Ellie of Ellsgrove, by ship to Jay’Al through the Archipelago. What first started off as a pleasant voyage is interrupted when their ship is attacked by dark elves and they save a captured Jay’Alian soldier. Kamryn also finds her familiar, a gryphon, though there is only one problem: she’s afraid of heights and would never willingly fly on the back of a gryphon.
Jasper was one of Queen Roslyn’s Feathers, a special group of soldiers and scouts that flew on the backs of gryphons. When he sees Kamryn for the first time he feels drawn to her, a connection that gets much deeper as they travel together back to Dragon City, the capital city of Jay’Al. Jasper's brother Dante, however, also catches Kamryn's eye, but she can't quite place where she knows him from.
Nothing ever stays peaceful for long. Queen Roslyn is worried that the dark elves and their old allies, the kobolds, whom she had banished below ground twenty-five years ago, are making another play for the surface. They’ve had plenty of time to plan their incursion, but there is so much more at stake now than ever before.
When the unthinkable happens, Kamryn needs to push past her fears to protect her new friends and the home she has started to build for herself in Jay'Al. Easy enough, right?
