Lessons

Private lessons are given on a weekly basis for either 30 minutes or 60 minutes. Lessons are curated to the student's needs and learning goals. While the lessons will focus on technique and repertoire, they will also cover creative thinking skills, musicianship, healthy practicing skills, and more.

If the student is not making progress towards individualized learning goals, the goals will be reassessed as needed.

Practice

Practicing can be seen as one of the most frustrating parts of being a musician. However, it is also one of the most crucial parts of growing as a musician. Contrary to the common phrase, "practice makes perfect," Katie encourages the mindset that practice makes progress

Regular, at-home practice is expected of all students. Short, daily practice sessions are much more effective than one or two long practice sessions.

Caretaker involvement is an important part of valuable practice. Please encourage and assist students in forming a practicing routine and do your best to ensure that practice time is free from distractions.

There will be discussions during lessons on how to maximize practicing effectiveness. However, if you ever feel that the student could benefit from more conversations about practicing, Katie is more than willing to assist in these conversations.

Attendance

Students are expected to arrive promptly at each lesson. After 15 minutes of non-communicated absence, it will be assumed that the student will not be in attendance.

In the event that the student needs to miss a lesson due to a scheduling conflict or illness, please contact Katie within 24 hours or as soon as possible. There is no guarantee that the lesson will be made up, but Katie will do her best to find an alternative time to meet.

In the event that Katie needs to reschedule lessons due to illness, emergency, or scheduling conflict, the lesson will be rescheduled as soon as possible.

Pricing and Fees

30-minute lessons are $15/weekly lesson.

60-minute lessons are $30/weekly lesson.

Prices are subject to change and may differ based on the nature of the lessons being offered. There will be no price changes without advanced notice and discussion.

Any lessons that are missed without prior communication are expected to be paid in full. Payment is not expected for any lessons missed due to Katie's illness or conflicts.

Due to Katie's efforts to make lessons as affordable and accessible as possible, she is willing to work out alternative payment options and plans if you have any concerns about finances. These decisions will be made on a case-by-case basis and require advanced discussion. Otherwise, each lesson should be paid for within 24 hours of the lesson. Payments can be made via Venmo, PayPal, Google Pay, Apple Pay, Cash App, cash, or check.

Books and Equipment

In order to keep lessons cost-effective, Katie will use digital copies of music as much as possible. However, it is up to the student/caregiver to acquire any materials outside of what is provided by Katie for the lessons as necessary.

When it comes to instrument quality, Katie will do her best to be accommodating to whatever the student already has. However, if she feels that the student is in need of a different and/or upgraded instrument, Katie will assist the student/caregivers in finding an affordable solution that will best assist the student in their learning.

Since most lessons are held online, it is expected that the student will be using a reliable device that will give her adequate visual and audio footage. Katie is more than willing to troubleshoot any technical difficulties but does not want persistent issues to interrupt the lessons.
