I am a differentiation specialist who loves educating teachers about gifted students and differentiating instruction for all their students. I love helping educators understand the gifted, discuss strategies to teach all students, and reflect on their practices. Then they have to go and implement what they have learned! Previously I have worked as a district gifted endorsement instructor, a gifted program teacher for K-5 students, and a 3rd grade teacher. I have offered professional development sessions for my school as well as state and national conventions. I earned both my Master's and Ed.S. in Educational Psychology (Gifted and Creative Education) from the University of Georgia.
I have worked with various networks and committees of the National Association for Gifted Children, including mentoring Javits-Frasier Scholars who are new to the gifted field. In an effort to expand this mentoring, I created a resource page for the Scholars to work with as they get started. This resource page (found in the navigation above) is good for anyone wanting to find information on various gifted topics.
In 2013 I co-authored my first article for the Special Populations network newsletter for NAGC. The article discussed how to train teachers to use a tool to identify gifted students. I published another article about getting involved in gifted organizations in the spring of 2015 for one of NAGC's quarterly magazines. For more information on my past sessions and a copy of my articles, please see ,y Portfolio page.
Through Interlocking Communities, Inc. I help with community programs. I assist with the data entry and administration of a Saturday School program each spring that helps struggling students get extra help. Please see our website here: http://www.icieducates.org/
For extra fun, I also have facilitated for Perimeter Church's ropes/adventure course called Sojourn. Awesome team building!! If you want to get a group together to try it out, please see: http://www.sojournadventures.org/. If you can't make it to the adventure course, I would be happy to come to you to help your staff and/or students team build in the classroom. I also love to dance ballroom, swing, and Latin! Let me know if you need a place to learn or practice!
