KATHLEEN

Kathleen McGuckin is a New York-based visual artist. Her practice uses mixed media, piecing together found materials and painterly depth to uncover what lies beneath the surface. Trusting the creative process, she responds intuitively and transforms the images that emerge, connecting the past and the present. This process-driven approach reconstructs fragments of material and memory into reflections on identity, loss, and renewal, inviting viewers to find meaning that resonates with their own experiences.

McGuckin was born in the Bronx, NY, and her family later moved to a nearby New Jersey suburb. The city's accessibility and weekly visits with extended family shaped her sensibilities from an early age. After completing a BA in Art Therapy at The College of New Jersey, she attended William Paterson University for graduate teaching certification.  She continued fine art studies at the National Academy of Art and Design NYC and SUNY, New Paltz, earning an MFA in Painting. 

While maintaining an active studio practice, McGuckin served the Monroe-Woodbury Central School District in Central Valley, NY, as District Art Coordinator, Art Department Chairperson, and HS art teacher.  Her career as an art educator also includes teaching positions at SUNY New Paltz and NJ public schools. Recognized for excellence in both art and teaching, she was awarded an Artist/Educator Fellowship from the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation. 

The artist lives in the Hudson Valley in Orange County, NY, where she maintains her studio practice.
