I am a professor of Sociolinguistics in the Applied Linguistics and TESOL program at Teachers College, Columbia University

I am recipient of the National Endowment for the Humanities (2020) Faculty Award and currently conduct research on bilingualism, ideologies and identities of Latinx in Puerto Rico and the United States and am currently working on a monograph under contract by Multilingualism Matters. I am a recent core committee member of the Language and Social Justice Group for the Society of Linguistic Anthropology and American Anthropological Association.

I have taught English and linguistics in Europe and Puerto Rico (US), and have previously held academic positions as full-time professor in Linguistics at the University of Puerto Rico Mayaguez (2019 - 2022), part-time professor at the University of Puerto Rico at Rio Piedras (2021 - 2022), occasional lecturer in Trinity College Dublin (2016 - 2018), and instructor of academic English at Griffith College Dublin (Ireland) (2018).
