Production
Kate learned a lot on the job as Producer. While Jira tickets helped with the flow of development, nothing replaced bi-weekly in person meetings and more regular one-on-one meetings with the team. It was much more effective to get people on the same page and make tough decisions with consensus.
Additionally she learned a lot about team management. Kate was never particularly confrontational before, but being forced to coordinate a large group of people taught her to be much more assertive of both her expectations and the limits of various team members, including herself.
Production was particularly rocky as with a small team of 6, 2 members having other full-time jobs, and only 3-5 team members at any given time being able to actually make it to the office. Kate managed to keep everyone in the loop and working efficiently with integrated video conferencing tools as part of meetings and solid task notes to make sure people knew what was expected of them and could communicate when their workload was too high or too low.
Although ultimately not the position for her, Kate's time as a Producer taught her how to be more communicative with other departments and establish better her own process, limits and abilities.
