Did you know that drivers who are autistic or have a communication disorder (ex. deaf or hard of hearing) may request a special code to be added to their vehicle's registration that informs law enforcement officers of potential communication barriers before they approach your vehicle?
A driver who has any type of communication barrier may now request the special code to be added for the owner or lessee of a motor vehicle or someone who may be operating the vehicle.
Drivers can ask their local County Clerk's office to add the communication barrier code to the vehicle registration database. If a peace officer pulls the driver over and runs the license plate number, they will know there may be some possible communication barriers when approaching the driver.

The Kentucky Autism Training Center offers a Visor Communication Card for drivers to use when a law enforcement officer pulls them over. It has a variety of symbols on it that will help facilitate communication between the driver and the officer. This can be printed and stored on the visor or glove box.
