Throughout my academic journey, two significant experiences have shaped my understanding of cultural awareness, adaptability, and global perspectives: my Global Citizenship and Social Responsibility class (EDTE 202) and studying abroad in Florence, Italy. Both experiences provided me with unique insights into what it means to become a global citizen, emphasizing the importance of embracing cultural differences, reflecting on personal growth, and understanding the interconnectedness of global business and society. The artifacts associated with each experience—the Global Citizenship journal and my study abroad journal—serve as tangible representations of my growth and the profound impact these experiences had on my worldview.
The Global Citizenship and Social Responsibility class was an eye-opening experience that pushed me to critically examine my role in a globally connected world. The journal assignment became a powerful tool for self-reflection, allowing me to track my evolving thoughts and realizations throughout the semester. Through weekly entries, I explored topics such as cultural awareness, ethical responsibility, and the social impact of businesses on a global scale. One of the most transformative aspects of this assignment was recognizing my own biases and understanding how they shaped my perceptions of different cultures.

Studying abroad in Florence, Italy further deepened my understanding of what it means to be a global citizen. Living in a foreign country presented both exciting opportunities and unexpected challenges, pushing me to adapt to a new culture and way of life. My study abroad journal became a vital space for processing these experiences, much like the journal I kept in my Global Citizenship class. Through daily reflections, I documented moments of cultural discovery, such as learning the Italian language, navigating social norms, and observing the emphasis on quality and craftsmanship in Italian fashion. These reflections allowed me to embrace the unfamiliar rather than resist it, ultimately enhancing my appreciation for the beauty of cultural differences.
Additionally, my fashion class in Florence provided valuable insight into the global fashion industry, highlighting how Italian heritage and sustainability practices influence international markets. This experience broadened my understanding of the interconnectedness between culture and business, reinforcing the lessons I had learned in my Global Citizenship class.
