The 2025 KASSE International Academic Symposium centers on the theme of “Social Studies and Gender Education”, exploring how issues of gender, identity, and equity shape teaching, curriculum, and the civic purposes of education. Amidst ongoing debates over gender roles, curriculum politics, and democratic citizenship, this symposium aims to foster critical dialogue at the intersection of gender and social studies education.
We are honored to welcome Professor Margaret S. Crocco, a leading scholar in the field, whose work has long investigated how gender and citizenship education, teacher professionalism, and curriculum design. Her keynote will examine the gendered dynamics of teaching and learning in social studies, highlighting the tensions and possibilities that arise when gender is treated not as a peripheral concern but as central to democratic education.
