What is technique?

Technique is basically just a way of doing something like a method or a trick someone uses to get a specific result. if you're drawing a picture, shading to show depth is a technique. If you're writing, using a metaphor is a technique. Even the way you tie your shoes is a technique. It’s just the "how" behind getting something done, whether it's in art, sports, cooking, writing and it is the same in ceramics, technique is just the specific way you work with clay to shape, decorate, or finish your piece. For example, pinch, slab work, wheel throwing, coiling, sticking clay together with slip, glazing.

slab built cups

these two cups were made with the technique called slab building, I used a slab and wrapped it around a cardboard circular object to make the round cup then stuck the bottom of the cup to the rest of the cup with slip.

wheel thrown bowls

these three bowls were made by using the technique called wheel throwing, wheel throwing is when you use a spinning pottery wheel to shape clay into stuff like bowls, cups, or vases. You basically slap a chunk of clay in the center of the wheel, get it spinning, and then use your hands

bread plates

these plates are essentially just pieces of slab shaped into a slice of bread them lifted on the sides to create the illusion of actual bread

three mugs

these three mugs are another example of slab built mugs, I used a slab to make the body and the base then joined them together then made a handle using another slab piece

spoons

these spoons were made by using a pinching technique, I pinched the round spoon part so it would be even all around
