Rehman published a hand-written magazine while studying in Saint Gregory's School namely Shachitra 10, around 1949.[1] In 1984, he founded the satire magazine weekly Jaijaidin. It became the most popular weekly within a few months. The satirical representation of social and political issues in the magazine made it a voice of the urban middle-class. Jaijaidin was known for being critical to Hussain Muhammad Ershad, the chief of staff of the Bangladesh Army who replaced a democratically elected president in 1982 and later declared himself as the president in 1983 through a bloodless coup.[1][3]
