JKSCIENTISTS SPECTRUM JOURNAL CLUB UPDATE
We are excited to announce an update about the JK Scientists SPECTRUM Journal Club, a unique platform for students and run by students. We have received an overwhelming 350+ registrations from diverse fields. The participants have been divided into 12 groups as per the major subjects of study: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Earth Science, Mathematics, Psychology, Pharmaceutical Sciences, and Engineering. Each group has 2-4 coordinators, who manage the smooth running of the monthly presentations. We have got very good responses from many undergrads and postgrads, who have shown immense enthusiasm by asking very good questions and discussing research ideas. Meanwhile, we are continuously receiving new registration and adding them to respective groups.
Concerns: There have been few unfortunate examples where most participants don't show up in the meetings, despite repeated reminders by the coordinators. We all need to acknowledge that most of the coordinators are researchers themselves and are extremely busy with their research. Their sole motive for leading SPECTRUM is to make young students and aspiring researchers aware of the importance and benefits of such a club. The least we could do is, be responsive to their call and value their time and effort.
We would like to bring your attention to some of the benefits of being part of SPECTRUM: SPECTRUM is a unique platform that brings you in direct contact with an amazing pool of scientists and researchers, who will share their scientific and personal experiences. It is a great opportunity to learn from researchers and scientists and align your career on a similar path. JKScientists will help you to invite any scientist/researcher in the group you want to interact with. SPECTRUM will help you in learning how to present a research paper, how to interpret experimental outcomes, design a scientific hypothesis, and finally how to implement that in your own studies/work. Particularly the undergrad (BSc/BA) and postgrad (MSc/MA) students will learn how to think analytically, which will greatly help in competitive exams like JAM/TIFR/CSIR/GATE exams.
SPECTRUM gives you a platform to hone your communication and presentation skills that will greatly help you in communicating your work as well as prepare you well for Ph.D./Postdoc interviews. Being an active part of one initiative at JKScientists may help you in getting preference for another initiative at JKScientists. For example, if you are part of SPECTRUM, we may help you in getting direct touch with the mentorship team in the next session, who will guide you in achieving your career goals. You all can mention in your CV that you are part of a JKScientists Journal Club. SPECTRUM can be a platform for all of you to collaborate and work together to come up with an idea, articles (research/review), or new initiative with JK Scientists. The motivated and hardworking members have full support from JK Scientists. Additionally, there are many other benefits like personality development, getting to know more people, developing connections (very important in research), and knowing about research opportunities.
Important Note: Hereon, we will be constantly looking at the progress of each group and the respective coordinators will send us a report about the participant absentees. If any participant without a genuine reason or prior approval misses 3 consecutive meetings, he/she will be debarred from attending future SPECTRUM meetings. Even if we get a few motivated students/researchers, who are eager to learn, we will go ahead with them. We believe in quality instead of quantity. One of the major goals of Spectrum is to screen students to be enrolled for the Mentorship program at JK Scientists in the future.
