Let’s talk about pockets. Specifically pockets on pants and jackets. Typically, Pockets on pants and jackets for men and women are not created equally. The pockets on men’s pants are large enough to fit the typical man’s hand, so it will usually fit a phone and wallet in one pocket, and keys and anything else in the other pocket. The same goes for pockets on a jacket made for men, only it is more common to have interior or hidden pockets with closures on them, like snaps, Velcro or zippers.
Jackets/pairs of pants that are made for a woman have pockets that are fake or barely fit a tissue, let alone today’s typical sized cell phone. More often than not, I find myself in need of a pocket with some type of closure that will secure my important items like my cell phone, essential cards, cash, and car keys when I don’t want to carry a purse where things are more likely to be stolen or lost.
Today’s fashion trends seem to dictate that pants made for women do not need functional pockets. While I understand that pants made for women require less fabric to be made, and that there are pants made for different situations, I don’t understand why some pants have no pockets at all.
I believe the need for pockets to be more common in jackets and deeper/functional pockets on pants made for women far outweighs the need for fashion. Jackets made for women should have interior/hidden pockets just as often as jackets made for men, and pants that are made for women should have real pockets/pockets that are a little deeper. I will explore reasonable options for functional pockets in women’s fashion regarding jackets and pants, and try to find a solution that is both fashionable and functional.
