So raise your glasses to the Underworld! (See ya!)
Full Name: Dr. Kar Yehudit Aster (Hebrew Name: Masha Yehudit bat Rivka v'Ava)
Birthname(s): Kar-Hem, Makaria
Gender: Female-presenting, insofar as an Ogdru Hem can be gendered.
Race: Fucked up Ogdru Hem/Titan/Chthonic Being Hybrid
Birthdate: Primordial Times, but on paper it's 01/26/1985.
Eye Color: Green (with black sclera)
Hair Color: Red
Height: 167.64 cm/5’6”
Weight: 57kg/125 lbs
Build: Lean, fit. Built more for speed than strength visually.
Orientation: Grey? She has a very complicated relationship with romance and sex (thanks Mom and her fucked up sex cult). Out of all my Aspect, this Kar is the least sexually active. Her education came first, and she may have fooled around, but that's it. Sometimes she wants a relationship, sometimes she doesn't want strings. Prefers men.
Marital Status: Verse Dependent
Noticeable Features: Eyes with reptilian pupils and black sclera, fangs. Three piercings in each ear, and nose. Hamsa tattoo on her back, black snake on her left wrist.
Personality/Quirks: Snarky, sarcastic, what friends and colleagues might call a stereotypical "New Yorker 'Tude". While most of her childhood friends and family have helped quell the chaotic and destructive nature of the Ogdru Hem, it's still there. Still known to bite people even as an adult.
Originally born as Kar-Hem, the youngest of the 369 spawn of the Ogdru Jahad. While still very small, the Goddess Hecate used forbidden magic and the Hem to create a child, named Makaria. Despite being an abomination and a risk to cosmic order, the Moirae in their infinite wisdom-- in time the child had a role to play in the tapestry of life.
Hecate would later keep a court and create a cult in Hyperborea, eventually leading to the empire's downfall and destruction. Priests of a rival cult kidnapped the infant, and sealed her in a sarcophagus. When the temple fell, it had been forgotten for countless millennia.
In the late 80s/early 90s, a BPRD expedition to the Arctic came with the discovery of the lost civilization, as well as the little child. Her sarcophagus was so damaged that only kar remained, leaving that to her the name given to her by the researchers. Growing up between the Bureau and a Foster Family, Kar had as relatively normal child in as much as a Hem/Chthonic could.
Due to her hyperintelligence, Kar started undergraduate studies at 14, and her doctoral studies in her 20s (taking a gap year after Professor Bruttenholm's death). (MSci Archaeology Major/Paleontogy Minor from NYU in 2003, DPhil in Archaeology from Oxford in 2009 with a focus on Stone-Age to Early Ion Age Cultures. PhD Thesis on late Neolithic-Early Broze Age South India.)
After Graduation she joined the Bureau officially as an full time agent during the Plague of Frogs outbreak. After the deaths of Kate Corrigan and Andrew Devon, Kar was briefly Director of Field operations, then Director of the Bureau after the Death of Thomas Manning. Due to the high death toll, Kar serves as both Bureau Director and Director of Field Operations until the role can be properly filled.
At some time between her teenage years and her tenure as an agent, Kar and her mother reconnected, but not reconciled. The goddess was dying, and needed her successor primed. Kar agreed when she died, she would take over her mother's role. In order to save the world Kar sacrificed herself to seal a threat; knowing full well she would end up in the underworld. As such she has inhertied her mother's duties, roles, and expectations.
Since her "passing" (in as much as it is, she is still allowed to go between realms as a liminal goddess) Kar has reconnected with her biological family in Tartarus; some she's still distant and others she has grown to like.
