November 25, 2025 Update: The server hosting the lorak.karolcpm.com content mirror has been decommissioned.
November 20, 2025 Update: Turns out, karolcpm.com will still be online for the next month.
In summary: For the next few months, content from this website will be mirrored on an alternate website. Check it out here: https://sites.google.com/view/karolcpm/home
My friend’s server that hosts the karolcpm.com website will be offline for the next several months, so I have established a Google Sites page to provide the same content without loss.
A Q&A section follows.
Q#1: What happens to this website’s content?
A: This website’s content will be mirrored on Google Sites until the server is available again: https://sites.google.com/view/karolcpm/
Additionally, visitors to the karolcpm.com domain will be directed to short.io for basic analytics before being sent to the Google Sites page. This process should be immediate.
Q#2: What will happen to comments?
A: Unfortunately, no comments will be displayed publicly. To submit one for when the karolcpm.com WordPress website is backup, submit a form from the Contact page on the mirror.
Q#3: Why not simply migrate the website to another server?
A: As much as I enjoy preserving the same setup, the process of saving a backup and booting off another server has not worked. A remnant of the attempt to migrate can be found at lorak.karolcpm.com. In other words, was not a simple process.
In technical detail,…
The WordPress framework can be self-hosted which grants access all the features at no additional paywall or cost. However, this would mean more technical skills are needed to ensuring the website functions properly. In this case, PHP on the server was too old by several versions. Secure Socket Layer (SSL), the encryption protocol that secures access to the website also had issues being configured. Although not necessary for content, it is likely to cause issues when loaded in other user’s web browsers. Last but not least, the server was on free trial for a month, and I was not interested in paying as I can automatically redirect visitors from the karolcpm.com domain to the Google Sites to provide the content.
Q#4: Why did you decide to use Google Sites for mirroring content?
A: Personally, Google Sites was my best option among a few others for quickly building a content mirror. Other options I considered was to host a pure .html for the posts, an idea inspired by pre-2000 webpages and very efficient in delivering text content. Imagine loading all my posts and updates on a single page! Eventually when I settled with Google Sites, I managed to somewhat implement the idea on the Google Sites as I would not have to make a new page every time: https://sites.google.com/view/karolcpm/posts
WordPress self-hosted on karolcpm.com on the other hand dynamically updates post pages automatically.
Alternatively I considered WordPress.com (not to be confused with WordPress.org which maintains the WordPress website builder), but many design features are behind a paywall compared to self-hosted.
Ultimately, the Google Sites had more options to customize the design, and I later discover more on the way. For example, I found I could specify custom colors for the theme, hence the close resemblance with the karolcpm.com website. This was not possible on the WordPress.com host: http://karolcpm.wordpress.com/
Q#5: Why not stay with Google Sites, or other no-cost web hosting?
Simply put, I do like managing an entire website on my own virtual server space and off my own domain. Not only can I choose the framework (such as WordPress), but I have access to statistics and other website features not typically available on another platform. It also costs much less in the long run to build and maintain a website off a server, than to use a webhost (in general) that would basically take care of most of the technical configuration involved.
This concludes general Q&A. Please let me know through the Contact page if you have any extra questions or comments. Alternatively, comment below if this website is still up. Thanks for reading!

Sep. 21, 2025: Somewhat related, the yote.uk domain has been officially returned and is no longer under my control. Thanks Bugz000!
Sep. 19, 2025: Testing configuration with routing all traffic through Cloudflare. All good so far, it appears to have resolved some errors I’ve been trying to resolve for a long time since the server was broken on Aug. 15, one being the REST API which was almost unsolvable. Now it finally works improving functionality on the backend.
A bit late, the Sep. 13-17 downtime was due to server upgrades.
Last but not least, I finally removed the “this website is under construction” phrase on the front page as I’m satisfied with this design and haven’t made any major changes to the theme in months!
Aug. 22, 2025: Uptime monitoring page now includes HTTPS monitoring to check if the webpage actually loads successfully, as opposed to ICMP which only checks if the server is available. In other words, it should be more accurate in checking if the website is working.
Aug. 18, 2025: Updated fonts for readability. Permalink structure for posts include a post id, it should keep the link working even if the existing link changes in the future.
Aug. 17, 2025 Update: Bugz successfully restored the website with a backup from Aug. 12. Backend (Debian, nginx and MariaDB) however got a fresh install but won’t change the website experience.
Aug. 16-17: [To be updated]
Aug. 15, 2025 Update: Bugz (the server host) successfully broke the server while trying to improve its backup & snapshot system, rendering all the previous snapshots useless.
Aug. 15, 2025 Update: New domain! Check it out on karolcpm.com! I will work towards transitioning the website to the new domain. If you find any broken links, please let me know with the Contact page.
Aug. 12-15 Updates: [Lost, will be rewritten if applicable.]
Aug. 11, 2025 Update: Here is a status page with uptime history stats: https://stats.uptimerobot.com/FqPNupUdcd/801140978 As for this website (yote.uk), I eventually hope to setup my own domain which will be next. (And to clarify, I don’t live in the UK.)
Aug. 10, 2025 Update: I have finally copied over content from the Gab.com account. Back when I registered in 2022, all my gabs (basically posts) were visible without an account. A lot has changed since, one being that the gabs were not visible without a log in. Additionally with some experience managing websites for the past year, so I figured managing one of my own would has it’s creative benefits too.
I’m still figuring out how WordPress and Linux Debian work on the backend, though overall I am happy with how this design turned out.
Feel free to let me know what you think in the comments!
Aug. 8 2025 Update: karolcpm.wordpress.com has been imported to yote.uk as a temporary test run. The latter domain is self-hosted thanks to a friend (If you’re reading this, hello! 😀 ). Long read short, I have access to all the nice features (eg. customize site design) on yote.uk, unlike WordPress.com which (unfortunately) paywalls a lot of them.
On the other hand, yote.uk is prone to downtime (as this is a test run for now), but the WordPress.com should be reliable in those cases. I still have yet to reimport the media to this website.
Notes to self (don’t mind this):
-Resolved SSL CORS glitch (yesterday)
-Import media
-Mirror and update from WP
-Mirror and fix headers and footers
Aug. 5 2025 Update (2): I now plan on copying over the general description of pieces to be included in each individual post.
Aug. 5, 2025 Update: Copying over the content from the Gab.com account will be the focus. Until I can migrate to a web host, domain, and the content is copied over, the website visuals are in progress for improvement.

Another Muse Sounds and Audacity remaster of an early orchestral piece. This was my first try writing in a cinematic style while trying out a new workflow. It was during some strong inspiration when I only wrote what came to mind and only that in a burst of inspiration. The piece itself was inspired by the ongoing California wildfires in 2020. The accompanying video visuals are also based on imagery of the piece. More details are found in the description below.
Score description (from MuseScore.com)
AMDG
“One night, where the lightly ash scented air leaked through the cracks of the home, where the dark sky was clouded with ash, it was late August in 2020 during the California wildfires and I had just laid my baby brother to sleep. Having laid him down, I turned my thoughts to music for a bit. I thought about what was happening the past week. And then I thought of hope. From there I began writing into the program the piece which would become “Hope in the Smoke. A piece which attempts to capture my thoughts of that time. I’ve managed to complete half of the piece at night, and the rest in the morning. The inspiration was strong to the point that the individual arrangements of the piece itself were very close to how I imagined it. A rather short piece, less than 2 minutes in length and marked “complete: in less than a day; though I’ll say it does well in presenting the atmosphere of the state of my mind on “Hope, in the smoke” –Presentation speech on June 15, 2022
It was around the same time of August 2020 when I was enjoying cinematic music tracks, so I thought I try writing my own as a break from the Operatic Flute project. I also wanted to try a different method of orchestrating. Rather than attempting to fill each space with a note, I only wrote the notes that came to mind as the inspiration flowed.
This is the most demanding project I have ever worked on, from remastering to release. My original plan after writing the piece four years ago was to render a smoke animation for accompanying an animated graph with the piece. However, I got additional ideas upon revisiting this project four years later and wanted to do my best to reflect them.
For the playback, I tweaked the articulations and dynamics of the original score for playback through Muse Sounds then applied EQ. None of the original notation was modified to retain my original intentions when originally written. I also used Audacity to tweak the audio with additional EQ, dynamic range compression, and more EQ to balance the playback.
The uploaded score is from the original MuseScore 3 file. Changes were made to page formatting, measure spacing, and front cover art to work as a present-time upload. See the score visualizer video for the remastered Muse Sounds MuseScore 4 score.

I produced this short Gustav Holst and Anton Bruckner inspired Fanfare in Synthesia back in March. I however wanted to wait until the Lullaby (2023) and Prelude to an Operatic Flute (2020) were released. Now that both are, here it is. I hope you enjoy!
P.S. As a bonus, I imported the MIDI into MuseScore Studio with some tweaks to see how it would sound there. Check out the MuseScore link to hear it.

"I did little remastering for this MIDI import, see the video link for a fine remaster." -Karol, composer
Romantic Fanfare for Timpani and Brass was inspired by the sound of the Romantic and Modern Eras, Anton Bruckner and Gustav Holst in particular. It was during the night of March 21st of 2024 when I experimented with the recording feature in the Synthesia piano program and came up with this idea, which came to mind and took a about few hours to record and arrange.
This was my first time working in a "DAW" like workflow, which I observed from a recent visit at recording studio (for a band). If anything, I would record an improv on piano or notate sheet music in my composition work flow. Would I try this workflow again with the Synthesia program? No, I would not! The available features are too limited in my opinion for a realistic workflow. Recording parts for a single instrument or layers of left and right hands for learning piano (although I personally wouldn't recommend it) is one thing, but layering several parts one by one is simply impractical with the limited recording features.
I used Audacity to apply panning, EQ (sounds equalizers), StaffPad Hall Reverb, for remastering the audio into stereo. The mono audio was unsatisfactory so I made adjustments to take advantage of a wide and balanced stereo field. And as an additional bonus, I attempted a brief remaster with MuseScore Studio as I was curious to know how the playback would sound with Muse Sounds, and I'll add that it sounded better than anticipated. I then applied panning, EQ, the StaffPad Hall reverb, and several edits to the score for a semi-realistic playback.
Enjoy, and don't forget to check out the Synthesia video with better synthesized audio from the Synthesia! https://youtu.be/PFNunpoAfG4

Finally, an early orchestral project! Prelude to an Operatic Flute is one of my earliest orchestral projects from 2020, which I have finished remastering with Muse Sounds and Audacity. It reimagines the last hours of a dying member. More details about the story and the music is in my comment below.
The cover art is also based off a Blender 3D project, which I made around the same time I wrote the piece. It closely resembles the image what I have always imagined while writing.
I hope you enjoy as much as I do!

Prelude to An Operatic Flute (PTAOF) imagines the last hours of a dying family member. It is divided in these three short scenes, and takes place in a room inside a castle fort, built of grey bricks and stone, all in a distant medieval forest land.
Below is the story which I have always had in mind when composing.
~ Begin Program ~
Mark A (0:04) Foggy Forest
-Misty and sad theme anxious of death.
-Frightening thought of death.
Mark B (0:51) Thunderstorm
-Uneasy: Last times on earth, the Last Rites are administered.
-Reassurance: Of the others.
-Request of the member not present.
Mark C (1:27) : Sunrise through the nighttime fog.
-Spread of joy, relief.
-Reminded.
-Doors open, and enters the relative.
Mark A (0:04): At the opening, the strings accompanied by a pair of winds and horns announce a misty sad theme. The orchestra re-echoes the theme as the distant orchestral flute rises high until trumpets resolve. We are presented a scene of a dying loved one on her deathbed, surrounded by dear family members. All were anxious of the hour that was near, and the sudden frightening thought of death.
Mark B (0:51): It is no doubt these were her final times and therefore, the Last Rites are administered. A reverence passes over to those present. After the rites, the dying one makes a last request to the priest to see a relative not present. The thoughts of death and grief reach a climax as the relatives grow in worry, until she gently reassures them. A calm follows for a brief time.
Mark C (1:27): Now confident that her wish will be granted, along with preparation for the rewards of eternal joy, she expresses a joy and relief which spreads to all those present. Expressed as the orchestra re-echoes the opening theme. This time, the theme is carried by the trumpet and flute in the background in an overpowering hopeful tone, almost forgetting the first sudden fright and worry the opening. The flute and bassoons distantly recall that this will be the last time to see her family members in that life. As the muted brass sound the doors opening, the music comes to a brief transition into a close, marking the start of their conversation.
~ End Program ~
This originally began as a flute concerto project, hence the empty staff of the flute before I later decided to make this a standalone work. The single flute playing in the score is not the soloist, but in the woodwinds section. I had inspirations from Dvorak, Mahler, Stravinsky, Alma Deutscher (for musical storytelling), and also some from Thomas Newman, Kevin Kiner, and Michael Giacchino.
This also features some of my earliest orchestrations from about four years ago, and I am well aware of some the awkward use of instruments. At the time of composition, I was using the piano roll feature with MuseScore 3 in an attempt to fill every sound space possible with detail, which I will later find out is a bad idea. I am also aware of the awkward meter changes which should have been 3/4, 2/4, 4/4, 2/4, (not 3/4, 4/4, 3/4). In addition, I decided to upload the original score with the custom audio for historical reasons.
Numerous dynamics and articulation marks were applied for the best possible playback with MuseScore 4, though no notation were changed to retain my original intentions. The only change made to the original score is page formatting, and rehearsal marks for your convenience. If you are curious to know how the piece originally sounded, simply switch to the score audio (not the custom audio). Overall, I am happy with how this turned out in) with Muse Sounds, and I hope you enjoy as much as I do.
P.S. The MuseScore 4 score is in the video links.
About the cover art: In brief, the forest image is from an early Blender graphics project, which was made around the same time PTAOF was composed. It is the scene that closely comes to mind at the opening.

The Lullaby paints a child’s picture of bedtime. The main theme introduces itself at a pacing tempo before settling at a relaxed pace, as would be the eager excitement of a child before a bedtime story. Stories unwind, past memories are recalled, prayers are said,… Towards the end, the continuous duet-like harmony express a mother’s and father’s love and care, which gently lay the child to peaceful sleep for the night.
I wrote this Lullaby for my newborn cousin who was born the same week, and had the wonderful opportunity to premiere with our entire extended family later that year. I hope he enjoyed. 💗

This work was particularly inspired by pieces from Johannes Brahms, Alma Deutscher, Kylie (Locke), and Hudson Holland. Chopin also gave left-hand ideas. Some passages were also based off of some ideas from a future symphony work in progress. It will be a very long while before I will have more word of progress with that project though. 😉
On the related compositional aspect, I realized that it may take me a while to catchup with publishing all my scores worth sharing from 2020 and onwards; so I carefully developed this piano solo as a debut work in the meantime. I also wanted to try out recording a live piano for the first time with fairly good audio equipment for a near-professional sound. I’m also performing live in the video, so let me know what you think below about this format!
I would say that the challenging areas with this project were revising the score for accuracy to how I would personally perform the piece, setting up the mics for the best sound, the mastering process, and the video edit. As for performance, performing on a keyboard is entirely different from performing on a live piano. I went through a few recording sessions to have a good take (despite a week’s worth of practicing on the keyboard and months in between sessions), though I’m fairly satisfied with this particular take. Even then, it took considerable time with adjusting the audio to satisfaction.
Special thanks to Elijah Hemingway who helped to transcribe an early recording into notation.
I have my other cousin to thank for the keyboard, which I used to develop the Lullaby before sending the midi visualizer recording.
Also special thanks to the local pastor and admin assistant for generously allowing use of the piano and microphones to record this piece.

Lost And Found Child is my first big musical project completed in a notation program. Enjoy!
Copyright and composer fields, audio panning, and page formatting are the only edits made to the original project. No changes to the notation were made. Originally, I wanted to make this “performance ready” but I’m just going to publish the original. If you want to give me tips on formatting sheet music, please see my recent music and give feedback from there:
MuseScore 3 at the time had bugs almost preventing me to complete this piece. Most notably, transposing a set of notes caused the entire program to crash leaving unsaved work lost. With this given, measures 11-24 could have used a C# Major key signature except I lacked the skill to import the key signature from the palettes panel.
I’ve posted with MuseScore 3 sounds because even after spending some time making this performance ready and sounding its best in MuseScore 4, Muse Sounds’ solo strings simply did not have that natural “liveliness” in the playback, at least for this small ensemble of instruments. In addition, MuseScore 3 audio always gives me the nice memory I had writing Lost And Found Child, something Muse Sounds can’t do even if I tried. But here it is! Roughly 3 years later, I’m sharing this lively work with the MuseScore community.

A.M.D.G.
Written and composed in 2012. Transcribed 2022.
Live audio recorded on September 18, 2022.
I remember the time when I was very young, I would miss my mother very much when she left home every weekday for work in the morning. Eventually, times changed and she stayed home educating and homeschooling me as well as my other siblings. I wrote and dedicated this piece, as well as the rather short and child-like melody to her to remind me of how she always cared for me and my family. I don’t have the full original lyrics, neither an early recording of the melody; but I still remember the first 2 sentences and the melody which goes along with it.
Hopefully someday, I will find the full original lyrics…
Note: “Nanay” from Tagalog translates to “mother” in English.

Just tried the MuseScore 4 sounds… it’s amazing! Even the mixing interface is better than StaffPad’s…
