I grew up outside of Seneca on a family farm. Throughout my life, I have learned what a good work ethic is and how to work with others in stressful situations. Whenever the cows get out it can be very stressful, but I have learned that working together and communicating are very important skills to get a job done in the most efficient way. My life of growing up on the farm has also shown me that hard work pays off. The task can be tedious, but the harder we work the faster it will get done.
In high school, I have taken on many leadership roles including KAY club president, NHS treasurer, and cheer co-captain. I have used the skills that I learned throughout my life on the farm in many of these positions such as communication, teamwork, and a good work ethic. The roles have pushed me to become the best version of myself.
When I came into high school, I was shy, quiet, and barely talked to anyone. Now I am the complete opposite; I love talking to people, meeting new people, and helping out others whenever they need it. I try to have a positive outlook on life. Things may not go right all the time, but I get to decide how I handle it. Throughout the pandemic and being quarantined for several months, I learned that I am a “people person” and enjoy socializing. I also realized in that time my love for children. I worked at a daycare, and I missed every child when I did not get to see them for several months. I was so excited to get back to work and see them all again.
While I was thinking about my future plans, I wanted something that had to do with children. I want to be able to watch them grow and learn; becoming the best version of themselves. Helping children has always been a passion of mine. When I was younger my siblings and I would play “school;” I was always the teacher because I was the oldest. I would plan out the whole day which included P.E., math, science, reading, library, lunch, music, and recess. We would even make a “school bus” out of chairs in our living room so that they would not have to walk home. Since then, I knew I wanted to be a teacher there was never a doubt in my mind. I still enjoy helping them with their homework and explaining anything that they do not understand.
Throughout high school, I took opportunities that might prepare me for this future including classes such as human growth and development and foundations to early childhood development. I also became a teacher aide, and I continue to work with children at a daycare. These experiences have helped me become more confident in my decision to become a teacher.
Overall, I want my future to involve me working with children. I want to be able to leave a positive impact on their lives. My goal is to teach for the rest of my life. I want to have fun, but also push my future students to be the best they possibly can be. I want them to dream big and achieve whatever goal they can set their minds to. I want to be “that” teacher; the one that every kid wishes they could have again. I will embrace all children, and face difficult situations as they arise. I want to help all children even those that struggle. They need to know that someone is there for them and is on their side.
My future goals are high, but I believe that if I work my hardest I will be able to achieve them.
