I provide therapy for young children, postpartum mothers and their families, and all caregivers who want the best for the littlest ones who depend on them. Within the vast array of parenting styles and grand expectations about the "right way" to raise a child, it is easy to feel overwhelmed. I offer support along the way with assurance, compassion, focused strategy, and a bit of humor.
Parents, early childhood professionals, teachers and clinicians need to adapt to the changing needs of an infant or young child, while also paying attention to their own well-being. I provide strategies using relationship-building, play activities, sensory techniques, and guided communication to promote loving connections or "repair" from scary or stressful life events. My training in evidence-based practices* for young children, their families and perinatal mood and anxiety disorders has informed my approach to therapeutic healing. You and your child will be supported with care, compassion and consideration for the culture of your family and your particular needs. Services may include virtual and in-person therapy or consultation for:
Play Therapy and behavior strategies
Perinatal and maternal trauma and mental health support
Focusing on baby cues and caregiver-baby bonding
Coping with traumatic events and anxiety
Clinical Consultation and Supervision for professionals
My specialization recognizes the connection and care you desire for yourself and offer to your child while honoring your intention for your growth. I will take the time to discover if we are a good fit for your interests and needs. Contact me with your questions or to schedule a complimentary 15 minute phone consultation.

I am originally from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and moved to Asheville, North Carolina where I attended college and began my professional social work career with young children and families. For many years, I provided early intervention and child mental health services in homes and childcare centers across both rural communities in western North Carolina and the Chapel Hill/Durham area, where I earned my Masters in Social Work from UNC Chapel Hill.
My first child was a toddler when my family relocated from our home in North Carolina on 10 wooded acres to Northeast Washington, DC in 2019. Now, I’m a parent of two fast-growing, energetic kids, and I understand the joys and challenges that come along with them.
Beyond the perinatal and early childhood focus, I have additional interest in supporting kinship caregivers and providing trauma and resiliency approaches for healing across generations. I have experience working with parents who are incarcerated (or otherwise remote), are in substance use recovery and want to stay connected with their children. My focus with women and birth partners in the perinatal period peaked after years of teaming with specialists both in my work, within my family, and during my own pregnancies. I truly recognize that healing after traumatic birth or unfathomable loss takes time and support — and I’m committed to walking alongside those on that path.
"I had the pleasure of working alongside Karin years ago, over the course of several years. Her kind and compassionate presence, along with her ability to maintain a reflective stance without needing to be the expert in the room, left a lasting impression on me. It’s a quality I strive to emulate in my own clinical practice.
Parents feel seen, held, and heard with Karin. Her approach fosters trust and connection, creating the foundation for impactful clinical work."
