KAREN SHIRK
I am a social impact graphic designer and visual storyteller driven by a passion for advocacy, inclusivity, and meaningful connection. My work lives at the intersection of design and purpose, where I translate complex human experiences into visuals that inform, empower, and inspire. As a transgender creator and community advocate, I bring authenticity and lived experience into every project, ensuring that the voices I represent are seen, respected, and amplified.
With a background as a nonprofit founder and leader, I understand design beyond aesthetics—I design to move people to action. My experience spans brand identity, social media storytelling, and campaign development, often centered around disability advocacy, LGBTQ+ visibility, and social justice. I approach every piece with intention, combining strategy, empathy, and strong visual execution to create work that not only communicates clearly but resonates deeply.
Currently pursuing a degree in Visual Communications, I continue to refine my craft while building a body of work that reflects my commitment to equity and impact. Whether I am designing for a nonprofit, developing a brand, or creating content for community engagement, my goal remains the same: to use design as a tool for change, connection, and empowerment.
AIKO, MEDICAL ALERT SERVICE DOG
Aiko is a highly trained medical alert service dog who brings both life-saving support and a bright presence to every space she enters. With a keen ability to detect changes in my medical condition, she provides early alerts that allow for timely intervention and greater independence. Calm, focused, and deeply intuitive, Aiko exemplifies the critical role service dogs play in enhancing safety and quality of life.
When she’s not working, Aiko is a regular in graphic design classes, where she has become something of a campus celebrity. Known for her gentle demeanor and irresistible charm, she effortlessly captures attention and hearts wherever she goes. Whether she’s quietly tucked under a desk or soaking up admiration between classes, Aiko is both a dedicated partner and a beloved companion.
