Biography for Kareen Ogunmakinwa
Kareen Brown Ogunmakinwa is a Jamaican, born in Kingston and raised in St. Catherine. She was raised to have a love for education and value community service. She migrated to Ridgewood, New Jersey in her late teens to join her family. She is a graduate of Bergen Community College where she earned an Associate Degree in Liberal Arts. She then continued her studies at William Paterson University where she earned her Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and a Certification in Elementary Education. She later went on to New Jersey City University where she earned a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education. Following that she earned another Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership. She is currently enrolled at New Jersey City University pursuing a Doctoral Degree in Educational Technology Leadership. She is a trained and experienced teacher holding various certifications including Elementary and Special Education, Supervisory, and Principal certifications. She has been teaching for over twenty years and absolutely loves what she does. She holds firmly to the belief that states, “if you love what you do, then you will never work a day in your life.”
She has served in several leadership capacities at her church and her community which includes being a member of her church board, Youth Leader and Pathfinder Club Director, and a Deaconess for many years. She has also volunteered to work on several political campaigns and civic endeavors. She is the current president of her civic organization for the past three years. She is married to the love of her life and they have two wonderful sons and a beautiful daughter. When she is not working, she loves traveling and spending time with her family.
