Welcome to Sushi Kappou KAGA – Discover Authentic Rural Japan in Fukushima
Nestled in the quiet hills of the Abukuma Mountains, Sushi Kappou KAGA offers visitors a rare glimpse into the heart of rural Japan. Our town, Ōgoe in Tamura City, lies about 30 kilometers from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant — an area deeply affected by the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake. Today, we are writing a new story of hope and revival.
Led by Masanori Shiroishi, owner-chef and president of the Ōgoe Chamber of Commerce, our mission is to revitalize this once-forgotten region through fine cuisine, culture, and international exchange. Drawing on years of experience as a chef in Europe, Shiroishi combines traditional Japanese flavors with heartfelt hospitality to welcome guests from around the world.
In 2027, we will open a small guesthouse adjoining the restaurant, offering travelers the chance to experience true countryside life — sharing meals, stories, and the spirit of resilience that defines Fukushima’s people. With multilingual service in English, German, French, and Chinese, we invite you to discover a side of Japan still unknown to most travelers.
Come and experience the beauty, warmth, and quiet strength of Fukushima’s countryside.
